Holiday Valley vs Peek 'n Peak for Dec. 22, 2025?

A bit of an odd question . . . my Cleveland ski buddy and another Ohio ski club member want to ski together on Dec. 22. Between Holiday Valley and Peek 'n Peak, which would have more open terrain for advanced skiers? The goal is for planning guided groups during a ski club trip to the European...

Lift served skiing in the woods via T-bar, Summer 2025

In case people missed the post by @Sbob in the Summer 2025 thread of skiing on plastic in the woods . . . The construction apparently started in late June and lasted through early August. Had to wait for the delivery of new mats. Not a project by young people, but seasoned skiers who are...

The Ops Manager at Waterville Valley is writing blog articles about all the summer work going on. That includes building the new T-bar in-house. Very fun reading for anyone interested in the nitty gritty of what it takes to have a ski mountain ready for the next season when multiple upgrade...

    Brian Head, UT: 3/16/25

My Idaho ski safari was supposed to end with a flight back to RDU from Boise. However, that changed when my non-skiing husband decided he wanted to start an annual tradition of staying in Las Vegas, mostly to see shows since he doesn't gamble at all. Bottom line is that led to deciding to...

    Tamarack, ID: March 11-12, 2025

The past two days at Tamarack couldn't be more different. It was a sunny and warm spring day on Tuesday, March 11. Off-piste was soft enough on the lower mountain after lunch. Today was an empty Wednesday with snow coming down essentially all day. It was a good thing that Bill and I had a...

    Brundage, ID: March 9-10, 2025

Warm spring conditions continue this week in Idaho. Meaning highs in the high 30s, with plenty of sunshine. After checking out Brundage on Sunday with Bill, he and I went back on Monday together with the intermediate Ski Divas. Since the Lakeview area faces south, there was soft snow by 9:30...

    Tamarack, ID: 3/8/25

Got my first taste of Tamarack in Idaho today. I liked it. Perfect spring skiing. A bit firm in the morning but groomers were good from the start. Most of the mountain softened as the day progressed. Really couldn't call it crowded considering it's Saturday. Longest wait at the base lift...

    Anyone use Kayak?

Do you use Kayak when planning flights? I just discovered that Southwest is a "New Partner." I've seen ads for Kayak but never bothered to check it out before. I normally stick with Southwest since there really aren't non-stop flights from RDU to airports useful for ski trips.

Aftermath of Hurricane Helene in the NC mountains, late fall 2024

Will do later. I live near Raleigh in central NC so a 3.5 hour drive from Asheville . . . when I-40 isn't covered with mud in multiple places. My daughter graduated from UNC Asheville in 2022, so I know the area around Asheville pretty well based recent trips. The situation is way bigger...

Here's the latest news for WY22 over Teton Pass. The section that collapsed June 8 is being called the Big Fill. The temporary detour should be open by July. The detour is essentially next to the old roadbed. So once it's finished, drivers won't really think of it as a detour in the standard...
