    Avalanche

Two dead, one rescued, in Utah avalanche on Lone Peak in LCC this morning. The area had received 30+ inches of snow earlier this week. Prayers to the families. Certainly not something you think would happen in May.

Where are you skiing this week?

Not a better spring scene or place to chill than A Basin. You may find some bumps…lots of bumps…so maybe shorter? Have fun!

Where are you skiing this week?

Expect to have a good time! It’ll be warm, but you’ll find great spring conditions on whatever kind of terrain suits you. Oh, and the scenery and vibe are really cool. Note that the Sh@t For Brains stuff, that’s not part of A Basin, it’s backcountry. I know RA has skied it and that’s why I...

Here’s a wider angle, to give a little more perspective. Those are BIG lines! I’d go there in good conditions, but I’d take my time.

There you go RA, a good view of Sh@t For Brains!

My pleasure, gotta find time for some trip reports! Willie’s Wide on the East Wall netted yet more powder turns. Think it’s going to Mary Jane tomorrow!

Palisades in May? Gotta get a few more days on the Ikon to break even!

Where are you skiing this week?

I was hoping there’d be a bigger Earth Day party on the Beach. By 5:00 it was already empty. I guess the partying happens during the day. Who needs to ski?

Where are you skiing this week?

Not like I had anything better to do! Solid 8” up high, surfy velvet. First chair, rope drop for the tow to Zuma, first to make the hike up Zuma. If you are going to chase a storm, even a mediocre one, might as well do it right. Although, it wasn’t really mediocre. Bypassed the conga line...

A Basin today. 5 inches in the lot, gotta be more up high. Worth first chair!

Where are you skiing this week?

Yeah, when everything is open they have some decent steeps. Tucker Mountain can be a lot of fun. Alas, with spring operations Tucker is shut down. Once I was far out in Union Meadows (told you it’s mellow) today, close to the boundary, I really was tempted to skin up and ski this line off the...

Where are you skiing this week?

The terrain out there is mellow, actually all of Copper is pretty mellow, but in the right conditions….

Copper Mountain today. Not shabby for three days after the storm in the back half of April!

Where are you skiing this week?

Will do. East Wall in late April becoming a tradition!

Where are you skiing this week?

Such is the nature of mid-April powder, almost anywhere. I’ll take it! Even with cold temps the sun this time of year has big impacts. Not a lot of snow flying in the 5 day….but A Basin seems poised to do best, with resorts on the Divide hopefully sneaking out a 6-10 in powder day on...

Where are you skiing this week?

There’s still a month and a half! Snowbird and Palisades will be rocking through Memorial Day. Copper just got 18”, A Basin 15”, could see another 6” Fri-Sat. If I can get the wife to sign off I’ll put my Ikon Pass to use there Fri-Mon.

    Whiteface Conditions

I don’t think Quad capacity would get put to use unless the Gondola is down, so I don’t think overcrowding on LW summit with the Gondi and the Quad dumping people would be an issue. The LW chair gets its heaviest use when the Gondola has an issue. Sure, on a Holiday weekend a few more people...

    Whiteface Conditions

They were only loading every other chair while the Gondola was down, as far as I could tell. When the Gondola isn’t running the LW chair is critical so I can see why it’s prioritized over other things. While a Quad would have merits, how much more would they spend for capacity that might not...

Total Solar Eclipse coming to NY: April 8, 2024

I hear ya. For you, Camp, and others, although you don’t know/don’t care what you might have missed, you know given your proclivities that it wasn’t worth your time to chase. No poo-pooing there. Warp, equating it to watching grass grow…maybe a little poo-pooing?! :p
