    ABasin Conditions

You’ll have a great time! It’s work, but don’t pass up the opportunity to spend time on the East Wall. Actually, once you get up there the terrain isn’t intimidating at all…..unless you want it to be. Top of Willy’s booter… But you aren’t done yet! Top of the Snorkle Staircase. The boot...

    ABasin Conditions

Mission accomplished! Conditions were superb today. Warm and soft, but never slushy, and still decent powder up on the East Wall. First another shot of the 1st Notch entrance. Then on to 2nd Notch. Once you down climb there’s a small ledge (very small) to put your skis on. From there...

Ok, plan for A-Basin tomorrow…..2nd Notch, then Willie’s Wide.

    Copper Conditions

Ouch. You know what APUS netted my son at Bing? Fall Through credits (i.e, it’s didn’t count for shiite). Although he’s not a History major…

    Copper Conditions

Not bad for 3:30 pm, a couple days after the last storm, on a 50 degree glorious spring day! Copper is a’ight. I was starting to think it’s meh, but it’s a beautiful mountain that reveals itself with a bit of exploration. Great family mountain, and the vast high alpine is gorgeous...

    ABasin Conditions

The scene on the East Wall. 1st Notch from afar. From top and bottom. It’s amazing how not steep ski runs can look in pictures. Although this (errant) picture of the lip at the entrance gives a better idea of steepness.

    ABasin Conditions

Stellar, that would be a good word! Great coverage on the mountain. Day started cold and was full on spring in the afternoon. Managed to find some nice, midwinter-ish, untracked soft powder in north facing trees early (maybe just slightly ob). East Wall was in full play, skied 1st Notch for...

Where are you skiing this week?

I was hoping for more than 10 inches between Tues/Thurs nights, but it should be a great weekend. Hitting A Basin (it’s East Wall season!) Sat/Mon, Copper on Sun.

Where are you skiing this week?

Have to decide for Sat-Mon! Option one is A Basin/Copper Mt. (Ikon trip). Front range should see 18+/- inches through Fri am with generally cold temps up high. So, head for CO and hope for some wintry powder high alpine turns? Option 2 is Snowbird (with a little exploring to now-closed Alta...

    Whiteface Conditions

Me thinks you are too easy on the yutes of today. There are just things in life that don’t need be tried and failed to know it was a bad idea. Hot poker in your eye, bad idea sans trying. Jam your johnson on a cheese grater. I can only hope they can figure, bad idea. Straight lining 25...

    Whiteface Conditions

So, I guess I’ll get to close down a second mountain this season, after being at the Platty closing day last week! Tomorrow should be interesting, as there were crucial spots that were getting thin today, but I’m sure tomorrow (Sky, Sky, and more Sky) will be good again. I can honestly say...

    Whiteface Conditions

While I can say I’ve skied Skyward in objectively “better” conditions…..I can’t honestly say I’ve ever skied it in more fun conditions. Gorgeous day. Great up top, what you would expect down below.

This is probably one of the best Insta-photos WF has ever put up. It truly has gotten me more stoked for the weekend!

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Yeah, the shirtless/naked skiers come WARM spring days really seem like they are having a hoot (yup, I said hoot, I’m that old guy, the one who poo-poo’s the grass skiers)….until they aren’t!

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Trying to figure that out myself. I don’t fall often but, even in soft spring conditions, a fall on exposed flesh can be ouchy! I’m thinking pant shell and either t-shirt or long sleeve t-shirt.

    Spring Weather 2023

5:46pm, Wappingers Falls, NY (LOHUD)…..still 91 degrees and baking sun. This shit keeps up and it’s gonna be a bad fire season in NY! It’s time for a Blood Orange Mule.
