    Powder days are overrated.

Does powder bring out the a$$hole in some (many) people? Are the pics of massive Vail lift lines on a powder morning redonculous? Does the untracked get gobbled up in seemingly no time in the am? Yes on all accounts, and if that is how you define “Powder Day” then perhaps they are...

    Avalanche

No worries, I just want sure what you were trying to say. Sure, staying out of the BC is the only sure fire way to mitigate BC risk! That said…Airplane (more remote than anything in Tuckerman Ravine, steep and narrow, with pockets aplenty to load, and low tide coverage) was probably a terrible...

    Avalanche

What’s your point? Do you not believe some objectives in Tuckerman’s Ravine and the Gulf of Slides are more risky than others, especially given the conditions and observations last week?

    Avalanche

I’m not saying they shouldn’t have skied that day but, from the standpoint of playing it conservatively, the information they had available to them prior to getting to the top of Airplane should have led them to perhaps choose something more conservative.

    Avalanche

While his posts try to convey they did all the right things (read the advisories, CT, ECT, ski cuts, etc, etc), the biggest mistake was thinking they were smart enough to allow a plan to proceed rather than taking the conservative approach and flat out avoiding risky terrain when evidence in the...

Basically Ikon Base mountain + good snow…..with a few Whiteface trips thrown in (and with a good spring even more WF days with the ‘24-‘25 season pass), and a Powder Daize or tree would be nice! Aged 14 years in Bourbon and Port casks, definitely my kind of Scotch! The Quinta Ruban, very tasty.

    Custom Footbeds or Patriot/similar

Big fan of custom footbeds, real custom footbeds and not cheap ‘moldable’ footbeds (although I have had those that are far superior to stock footbeds). Of course, my street shoe size is 11.5 and I’ve been skiing in 10.5 boots ever since my (shitty) racing days, so fine tuning makes a big...

    Skiing and Altitude Sickness

DNA must play a part, maybe also whether high aerobic activity is a part of one’s every week life??? I read this thread and generally scratch my head. I’m a East Coast flat lander, like most of us here, two/three left coast trips a year, not all high altitude…..and hiking 30+ minutes to the...

Sometimes a trip to the liquor store to get Bacardi Silver for the missus gives you the opportunity to look over the whiskey/whisky section for something new, something that that catches the eye. Always having been a black cherry fan (soda, etc.) I was intrigued by the ‘finished with black...

    Interior NW Trip: Jan 24-Feb 3 2023

Great trip report. One of these years is like to check out the area around Steven’s Pass (resort and backcountry).

Our Accord was totaled and now I gotta buy a new car.

Sure, you should have to sit in the driveway if you need to figure things out. Safety first. Once you have things figured out, and you want to do something relatively simple after you leave the parking lot, it gets slightly annoying. Not a huge deal for me, I was just observing.

Our Accord was totaled and now I gotta buy a new car.

Should I have used a smilie Johnny? The Mazda3 has good horsepower and a lot of torque for a small car, but there are a heck of a lot faster cars out there. Point I was trying to make is that most everyday driving, in traffic, doesn’t necessarily let drivers use all the power at their disposal.

Our Accord was totaled and now I gotta buy a new car.

I guess. Frustrating more so, no? Driving my son’s Mazda3, small car with 310 ft lbs of torque, it was like a caged animal yearning to be unleashed. You could FEEL the car wanting to go, but the navigating traffic to pick up pizza kind of driving doesn’t provide much real opportunity to do...

And our VW won’t let you do much when the car is driving, many of the menus are not available unless the car is in park!

Our Accord was totaled and now I gotta buy a new car.

If you need more rear passenger room the Accord is bigger. If you don’t need the extra rear passenger space for long trips…check out the Mazda 3. For $35k you can get a Premium Plus with Turbo, all wheel drive, and leather (and lots of other nice stuff, and Mazda doesn’t believe in touch...

    The Ugh Thread

My wife went out to the parking lot after school on Monday to find someone had side-swiped her car, leaving some pretty significant damage. Ugggh, sonofa….hard to believe someone picking up their kid at an elementary school would do that and leave. Evidence that some people really do suck...
