    Sweet Cars and Trucks

Such a cool car, the MGB GT. This one spotted locally, likely a ‘66 and is right hand drive .

Yeah, we had leek bulbs in the fridge for a few days, even that got a bit ripe. Frozen now.

The Fire and Rain and Smoke Thread

Back in the late 70s/early 80s, I guided canoe trips in Quetico Provincial Park, just across the border from Minnesota and the BWCA. One July there was firesmoke so thick that it reduced the sun to a pale orange disk in the sky for a couple of weeks. News travelled slowly back then but we...

    Tales from the Hinterlands 2024/25

One of our key Hinterlandian members, and sometime poster here, needs a little help. If you've got some spare cash, a skier with a brain tumor could use a donation. More info here: https://gofund.me/ad6581a4

The Fire and Rain and Smoke Thread

Yes, thanks for asking. We have similar haze, all the fires are way north and west of where we are. Too much rain around here for any fires to start outside!

    Dog Thread

Wow, time flies, this one turns five tomorrow. What a fine representative of the rescue dog world she is, loving friend to all, unless you are a woodland rodent or deer. RIP baby groundhog she murdered today. Happy Gotcha Day and honorary birthday to Moira Rose of Attawapiskat.

    Sweet Cars and Trucks

My local mechanic and his office manager just built this awesome ride. 1953 Chevrolet panel truck body on top of a ‘71 4x4 pickup chassis and small block V8. They are going to keep the rat rod finish.

Watch for the aurora borealis tonight and tomorrow

Agreed. Pretty hazy in these parts. Check out https://firesmoke.ca/forecasts/current/ for the skinny.

Watch for the aurora borealis tonight and tomorrow

Kind of late but if you are up later tonight or tomorrow, there is a very chance of seeing some northern lights. Big solar storm is afoot. NOAA Aurora forecast

Moira went for her first bus ride today. We did a little hike at a scenic waterfall with some travel agents from Germany. I think that she really enjoyed watching the world go by from the lying down position.

    Spring Weather 2025

Snow flurries this morning, nothing stuck.

The house smells like wild leeks again. Blue Toes took advantage of the cold snap and lack of bugs to get another leaf pick done. She'll go for bulbs next week, they should be phat by then. Even the flowers are tasty, nice garnish on a salad (they come later).

    Building a House with Wood

You don't need to figure that out, the person who designed your roof truss system should have already done that. Telemark Dave's job is designing and engineering roof truss systems, he explained to me once that if your house is built to code (in our region at least), it will hold WAY more snow...

    Ramps

Seasoning and garnish. Really good on eggs, potatoes and in soups. The dried version has a much milder flavour than the fresh ones, so sprinkle on liberally.

It’s a pretty basic model, a Salton Vita Pro.

Full-on ramp aroma in our house tonight and yesterday. Blue Toes went picking yesterday and the dehydrator is running now.

    Building a House with Wood

Can't speak for trackbiker's friend but we set up a similar path with 1" crushed stone and drainage pipe. In more decorative areas we put river rock on top of the gravel.
