Where are you skiing this week?

My brother and I will be at WF this weekend as well. I’ll be red jacket/helmet, black pants, skiing the Ripstick Blacks. Maybe we’ll see you around!

    Winter Weather 22/23

Even the forecast for the Whiteface Mountain Observatory is for upper 30s and ncp. I’m less concerned with snowpack (net gain/loss) as this is a minor event. Surface conditions and off piste, however, after pushing 40 with ncp today followed by freezing temps…that’s not gonna be good.

    Winter Weather 22/23

Yeah, I fear ski conditions are going to be for shite this weekend, unless fast and firm groomers is your thing.

Leaving Dog in Car while Skiing

True. Although I’d consider 70 degrees a summer temp for purposes of this discussion. I was really just trying to say that in winter/spring skiing conditions I don’t think she’d have to worry. Personally, we wouldn’t leave our hairy little old man in the car for more than a few minutes...

    Plattekill Conditions

I thought what Harvey meant was on map trails, that are often groomed. That’s why I said “groomers”, quotation marks noted. There were no groomers yesterday!

    Plattekill Conditions

Agreed Harvey, untracked in the woods was so much easier to ski than cut up on the trails. Until a last run down Plunge on toast legs my only “groomer” runs were 2x Plunge and 1x Twist, all while there was still untracked to be skied. Other than that it was woods, woods, woods. The density of...

Leaving Dog in Car while Skiing

As long as you aren’t skiing in the summer I don’t think police or people busting your dog out will be a problem.

    Plattekill Conditions

I love playing in untouched powdery woods, so my pleasure! How far out did you guys make it? I’m surprised the ridge didn’t see more traffic. I threw the GoPro on for a run….

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Is what the Dark Side lifeline has become objectively a fun trail? Sure. However, I assume you skied it before its ‘demise’? It’s ok to admit it, it was even more fun before. Go ahead, it’s ok to say it.

    Belleayre Conditions

28 just past Belle all the way to Platty made me glad I put new tires on the Volvo on Monday. The tires I had on there were for shit, and the roads were snow covered.

You were a single, with me right? Nice to put a NYSB handle with a face!

    Plattekill Conditions

I think that boarder was taken off the hill by patrol. Several people this morning were walking down. Me, I missed first chair. Had to settle for third. Of course this “line” was gone before I made it to the bottom.

    Plattekill Conditions

To those who follow, you are welcome! To the trail breaker goes the spoils! Of course breaking trail in means breaking trail out. You are welcome, again. At least I ran into TheGreatAbyss playing in the woods! Into the breach once more!

Snowflakes falling on 28 west, yes. Cars on 28, no!

Platty FB page reporting 30 inches this afternoon while clearing parking lots with the snowcat!

    Plattekill Conditions

Belleayre updated to 24. Last report from Hunter was 19 (when Belle was at 18). With the Meeker Hollow effect one has to assume Platty came out at 24+??

    Spring Skiing?

Broski, we all know they are always wrong…..but we don’t say such things out loud!

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Honestly, 30 inches of heavy, wet “powder” can be un-fun for many, maybe even most, people. Even good, light powder isn’t for everyone. The best people are those who struggle in it and still have a blast. Those are my kind of peeps!

    Whiteface Conditions

I was trying not to sound like a lush. If I needed to really kill time I could make food and bloodies at the Cloudspin last for tree hours!

    Spring Skiing?

As you may have gathered from others, on a 40 degree day, when it gets below freezing overnight, you’ll be just fine. It’ll likely be fast and firm in the am and, assuming spring has been kind and there have been a few cycles of below freezing nights followed by 40 degree days, sometime after...
