Thanks. I’m an operator for this company and operate in AZ too but a lot of stuff in the desert goes as hand builds. I do a little bit of everything from excavating to design, consulting yada yada. I’ve mostly been in that machine in the background so far this season. It’s a big one for trail...

Thanks man! It’s a team work effort sort of deal, not my sole work but we are all working together to make it happen.

    Now and Then

I wish I could go back in time to hang out with my daughter when she was that age again. It’s good stuff.

They’re going to have to figure something out. I haven’t seen any slides over here in Idaho. What a beautiful part of the country btw. The forests are incredible and there’s so much water everywhere. Being from Arizona I’m not used to things being so green.

Indeed. I bet they get it fixed before winter hits. There's a lot of big money in them parts and a community that can't afford to lose their employees. I'd think they could tap into some federal disaster relief funds or something like that.

Oh man. “That guy”, no doubt. In my 30 years of back country skiing I can count how many pits I’ve dug on one hand.

It could, possibly but the people in this incident were experienced.

That’s a whole lotta new snow with a whole lotta wind in a relatively short amount of time. Lone Peak is a big, high risk objective with a long approach.

Yup, being May that’s the first thought that jumps into my mind but it could have been cold too. 30 inches, wind transport, some slab and a good spring pack bed surface and you’ve got conditions for a tragic slide. I haven’t paid any attention to the Wasatch weather this week so I don’t have a...

True. I meant it in general not pertaining to this specific incident.

    Jesus.....That's a bit of a shit show.

    Bad Wipeout

I think a lot of ski resorts may be exceeding their recognized carrying capacity numbers as designated in their Forest Service lease agreements. If a slick lawyer figures that out and can prove that is the case in an incident like this it could be a very bad day in court for a ski area.

CB is a classic ski town and far enough out of the way that it’s not ruined by weekend traffic. I’ve always said that if you aren’t there to ski the expert terrain the place isn’t all that. But if you like rocky, technical skiing it’s pretty darn hard to beat. Skiing there in the 90’s was...

It looks like it takes a bit of an epic journey to get to where you actually want to ski. That’s not bad for a tourist skier on vacation but it kind of sucks if that’s your local hill and you want to get out for just a couple of hours here and there. Less is often more. The winter I was in...
