    Magic Conditions

I used an Indy day at Magic today (finally!). It was well worth the trip. Being my first visit of the year, it also meant my first-ever rides on the quad. No complaints about it from me, though I missed riding up the Red Chair, which is always a season highlight. I was on the snow by around...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Royal reported 4" this morning. I arrived around 12:30 and it had shrunk to 2 or 3" or so. More up top, less down low. What we did get made for some pleasant skiing. The surfaces were more firm than yesterday, and with the exception of some low angle ungroomed spots like parts of Lower Red...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

I was pleasantly surprised how well the snow held up to the warm and rain of the past week. Things got patched up pretty nicely and we only lost Doc's Drop from last weekend. Captain Jack's is really thin but was open. There are still some pretty big mounds scattered around that can be pushed...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Royal didn't open yesterday with some ice in the morning and cold rain later in the day. Seems like it was a good call. Back at it today, I was holding out hope that the sun would come out and waited until around noon to head up. After a quick snack on arrival I was on the snow at 1. Still...

    Snow Ridge Conditions

Surprised no one has posted the Snow Ridge statement on the incident. https://snowridge.com/news/north-chair-incident/

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Frozen to loose granular today, softening just nicely in the sun. I was surprised it wasn't busier on such a nice day. Captain Jack's was especially nice every time I did it, but no complaints about the snow anywhere on the groomers. The bumps on the side of Challenge were too firm for me.

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Not sure I can be too helpful, but I can say the Stöckli Montero pair I liked were just really smooth and quiet on the blue groomers. The Blizzards I tried were chattering a lot at speed and I wasn't a fan of that. The K2s I tried were really light and very loud (though not a chatter, just...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Good day today, even though the rain started ahead of schedule. My first lesson was up on the main mountain with a more advanced skier, and all trails we took were in good shape. My second was on the practice slope. After lunch I had time to go take advantage of demo day. I only had time to...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Not much new to report today since I only made 5 runs off the top. All were great packed powder, with Captain Jack's and Royal being the best of what I skied. I arrived late and taught twice so no time to do much more. They did not groom Challenge, and I heard it was very much a challenge...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

I didn't get there quite as early as I wanted but I was on the chair 10 minutes before posted opening time. Easily 8" of powder, probably more like 10". A run down Challenge was great, maybe the 10th tracks down. I was first into Duke, then first into the Gladed Wench (first time this...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Jake posted a video on Facebook, said there's 6" fresh at the base, and they are leaving most of it untouched for tomorrow. They'll groom out the greens and part of the Prince. Queen, Challenge, Royal: come get the powder. Hope the wind didn't blow too much of it off. Royal is generally...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

It ended up being an enjoyable race day at Gore despite the wind. I was able to get in 10 runs in between watching my daughter's and my nephew's races. We were able to take another of my nephews down Lies for his first genuine double diamond. It was groomed flat but was still the longest...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

FYI, the high school sectional races at Gore originally scheduled for Tuesday 2/13 have been postponed to Wednesday 2/14 in anticipation of at least some participating schools having a snow day tomorrow making it so they'd be unable to attend. There will be both slalom and GS races.

    Oak Mountain Conditions

I worked course maintenance today for the Broadalbin-Perth Invitational race at Oak, and got in some free skiing too. It was my first Oak skiing in 6 years, which really surprised me. A fairly firm granular surface early became very much a spring skiing day with some periods of sun, some...

    West Mountain Conditions

I have been hoping to use an Indy day or maybe both once they get some more terrain open. I'm worried they won't even try at this point. It's obviously been a tough snow season. but many nearby mountains have managed to get the majority of their terrain open. I had a pretty nice day there...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Some Royal regulars tend to get a little grumpy about the "long lines" if they wait more than about 45 seconds...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

Start with what we had yesterday, remove those few clouds that floated by, make the snow much nicer all day (still frozen and loose granular but never got skied off), and you have today. Even Royal and Challenge were still skiing great when I quit after 3. A few glades were tempting enough...

    Royal Mountain Conditions

The snow was fine but the best part of the day was the return of the sun after being nonexistent for so much of January. We started with a firm and fast groomed frozen granular, things softened in the sun and with skier traffic, then it was skied off pretty good on the steeper parts by late...

    Mohawk Conditions

I used an Indy day at Mohawk today. It was my first time skiing there, and actually first anywhere in Connecticut. 70th ski area for me by my best estimate. They had most of their terrain open with pretty good man-made cover. Some natural snow areas were probably skiable but did not tempt me...
