You found the 2004 Powder Daize video then lost it, huh?

It's Time to Ski New York

Why doesn't your map include the ski areas in NH that we hit 13 years ago? All these years later, still nothing north of the border! Sorry, ignore my hijack.

    Drones over New Jersey

I was unaware of these sightings until you posted and now I see all the articles about it. I was always unnerved by UFO sightings going back many decades that tended to be clustered around military installations, nuclear power plants, and other important places.

What is your most positive memory of skiing in NY?

Bobcat Feb 2005 Whiteface Dec 2008 Greek Peak Dec 2003: no report/pix but a memorable day-after-Xmas powderfest, my first and best time at GP.

    Baseball

The Post is at its best picking over the bones of a NY team's embarrassing loss. That first-base miscue was especially brutal. https://nypost.com/2024/10/31/sports/theres-no-escaping-the-brutality-of-this-yankees-failure/

    Brodie Mountain

I ran across this 50-minute clip of a visit to abandoned Brodie with, as the title says, virtually everything still there.

Fahnestock Gravel: 10/12/24 Ancient Paths to Modern Roads

Thanks for the link about the proper owners of the land where I grew up. Wow, "mud boil" -- I'd never heard that term before. Just seeing those names again (Solvay Process, Allied Chemical, Honeywell) reminds me of CNY's desecration.

    Greek Peak Conditions

For the first time in many moons, I drove by GP yesterday on the way back to 81 after what looks like a final visit to my ailing uncle. Odd to see it during off-season -- was there some sort of equipment sale going on in the lodge?

    Plattekill Wedding

How many attendees can Platte host for a wedding? Was the long liftline due to having to stop the chair for every couple they onload? Impressive what a few lights and candles can do to what feels in winter like a basement rec room.

    Mount Peter Conditions

Impressive to see a beginner's hill like this with such a devoted following that it's out of season passes before they even go on sale? NYS's longest continuously operating ski area, since 1936! My one day there in 2012.

    Ramps

That's what I've been doing for the past 5+ years. I just pick the leaves and honestly don't notice the difference once they're part of a dish. Wow, I've never run across a sign like that in the U.S. I've seen them in Quebec.

    Ramps

I've never run across ramp flowers, fresh or dried.

Aftermath of Hurricane Helene in the NC mountains, late fall 2024

I recall bomb drills and at least once, in 1972, when it was real. We watched the police climb all over the roof of our elementary school looking for the alleged explosives that were anonymously called in. Turned out to be a hoax.

    Alpine Mountain, PA: 02/12/11

Bumping this old report carried over from the previous version of the forum to include an excellent video by Avery Zucco from three years ago in which he walks the abandoned property and provides lots of interesting details and insights. Hard to believe that the very alive hill my son and I...

Aftermath of Hurricane Helene in the NC mountains, late fall 2024

In 2019, my father and his wife followed orders to evacuate their home in Northport FL, halfway between Fort Myers and Sarasota, and drove to Columbus GA, where they spent five days at a price-gouging hotel. Following monumental traffic jams in both directions, they returned to a completely...

Aftermath of Hurricane Helene in the NC mountains, late fall 2024

who said this? said: No one in the mountains of North Carolina or East Tennessee prepares for a hurricane. It’s kind of like asking why someone in Iowa doesn’t prepare for a tidal wave or why someone in Florida doesn’t prepare for a blizzard. It’s not what happens, like ever. That quote ^^ was...
