I like me some Jane's Addiction. I also put the music on pause if I'm someplace unfamiliar and the terrain is technical, or conditions are poor, or anywhere in the backcountry. I'm talking about skiing runs like Cloudspin or Skyward which I can see from my living room and have skied more times...

Also, I'm not trying to start an argument about this. I respect and accept the judgement that I'll probably get. That said, I would find it hard to believe that I'm the only one in this thread that does this and I'm curious to hear what others listen to.

Skiing, hiking, or running, in the backcountry, no music. I agree it's too dangerous but more importantly it takes away from the experience for me. Skiing inbounds or running in the city or local trails, I know it's marginally more dangerous but so is skiing after a couple of beers (or other...

    The Generations of Music

For about the past year, each week my wife and I listen to albums from one year. The next week we advance to the next year and so on. We started with 1970, then 71, etc.... Even though it's been about a year since we started we're only at 1998 now because some weeks we just don't get to listen...

    Yes You Need Snow Tires

have you had trouble with all-season? I would want to see data on how these perform versus all-season during the summer. It looks like some of that data may be available but I'm not a CR member so I cannot access it. I get wanting to cheat towards snow though, that's when you may need that...

    Yes You Need Snow Tires

I think the no-free-lunch theorem would imply that if these are better for winter driving, they will be worse in the summer. I think an often understated benefit of having dedicated winter tires is that you can choose a better summer or touring tire that outperforms all-season or all-weather...

Have you ever had your gear stolen?

Someone took my poles, by mistake I'm sure, at the Yellowstone Club of all places. Never lost anything anywhere else in 40+ years of skiing but I do split my skis if I'm getting bad vibes.

No argument there. I don't care how cheap they make standing in line all day, still not something I'm excited about.

Storm Skiing Podcast with Vail Inc. Eastern Head Honcho

My issue with pass math is more with my own behavior regarding accepting sunken cost in the long term versus short term. That is, I have no trouble skiing only a few runs in a day on my season pass, but if I buy a day pass somewhere I have a difficult time not forcing myself to ski until the...

My guess is that any kind of partnership with ORDA would likely be a 7 days of passes kind of thing. With WF as my home mountain I'd rather that not happen but it's a lot different than a full-on acquisition. I think you're spot on about the price drops squeezing other areas. In the short term...

You may be right but the savings would more than allow me to buy an additional pass at Smuggs, not to mention the fact that I would now have a pass that worked at all other Vail properties. I'm not saying it would be a win overall, but there are some perks that would certainly help soothe my pain.

Not to be contrarian or anything but if Stowe was my home mountain and season passes went from 2200 to 800 overnight, I'm not sure how anti-corporate I'd be feeling. I don't know what the numbers are, and COVID probably throws a monkey wrench in the data for now, but I don't know just how much...
