Replying to myself here because I just realized that the sidecountry tour over to Black Mountain at Loon reminds me of pre-lift access Burnt Ridge at Gore. A small schlep to access lots of hardwood shots and work your way back to the lift at the base.

Regular Whiteface/Gore skiers will feel at home at Cannon. Slightly spartan, state run, lots of history, quirky af, arctic winds, steeps, ice. All the stuff hardcore eastern skiers love.

I agree with sno….There definitely is more challenging terrain at Loon than at Okemo. But weekends are a zoo of Massholes. Loon also has some surprisingly good tree skiing/sidecountry (quality and quantity) over on Black Mountain, off the side of Walking Boss.

First, I’d suggest a better reason for moving than a perception of how you think the state’s political identity will affect your mental health. But, seeing as we generally hemorrhage young people around here and like VT and Maine we are a very old state, average age wise……maybe we could use...

I have curled in a league here at the college’s ice arena, although beers are apres. Occasionally flasks on the ice. It feels so awesome at the end of a hot, humid summer day to go stand on the sheet for a few hours. League has not been active during pandemic.

It’s a pretty big state. How much of it did you see?

It was a great, social, mildly athletic way to kill time standing around. Great for high school stoners, raft guides at the put in, other cliques I may or may not have been tangled up in. But yeah…..people now fill those interstitial times on their phones.

Nobody hacky sacks anymore. If people are standing around in a circle, they tend to be on their phone.
