    Gore Mountain Conditions

I was in no way complaining about the number of people who showed up. I've definitely seen it more crowded. My point is that if so many customers can be there early to ski, then so can the employees needed to open the lifts on-time. It's a recurring issue for Gore and I'm far from the only one...

Hardly any glades opened. I did ski Barkeater late in the day. Actually ended up on it after patrol had closed it because they forgot to put the rope up, and ended up behind sweep. Luckily they let me on the lift at the bottom, so I didn't have to hike up Cedars.

Once they opened it was pretty darn good. I mostly skied High Peaks all morning and took Fairview to the saddle for lunch. They're claiming a foot at the top of the gondola, but there's more on trails where the wind blew it in.

All these people somehow showed up but they still couldn't open on-time.

The lifts all have their own stand by or evac drives, and it's not connected to the snowmaking system in any way.

Only trails within the intensive use area count against the mileage limit. Most of the ski bowl is on town land.

As much as this sucks, it may be out of their control. There were power outages in the area last night, but as power is restored, there are often curtailments in effect, and these usually mean they can't make snow. I'm not sure if this is actually happening now, but it is such a thing.

Because the ski bowl circumvents the mileage limit, since it's on town land. Other than what's already approved but not constructed, they can't expand anywhere else.

Their permit is for 4800 gpm. I'm not sure where the 9000 number came from. As for @Milo Maltbie I've been pointing out the same mistakes for a long time. The problem is it's a lot easier to get projects funded that increase snowmaking footprint, because they are often cheaper and more visible...

    Whiteface Conditions

All 3 ORDA mountains have made snow in March. But they usually don't, because their snowmaking window only covers November, December, January, and February, and that is sufficient in most seasons. Due to the large power consumption of snowmaking, each month, they have to pay a large fee upfront...

Hudson is the second longest fixed grip only behind Topridge, but it runs much slower than Topridge. High Peaks is about an 8 minute ride, but Hudson is more like 10. Once the ride time gets over 9 minutes, people tend to avoid the lift because it's too slow.

    Whiteface Conditions

I'm in the Whiteface Conditions facebook group, which while new this year, now has about 2300 members. I honestly credit that group for bringing a lot of these issues to light, when previously they would've been swept under the rug, or otherwise gone unnoticed. There are firsthand reports posted...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Why was it so empty before? Because it was only 2 trails, one of which was always closed for racing. Now that it has another trail, people have more reason to go there. People don't go to the ski bowl, even with Backwoods open, because the lift is so slow. They're replacing it this summer.

Barkeater was seldom open due to the steep exit onto Pipeline. The upper portion of the glade is open more. It was inevitable that any trail cut in that vicinity would impact the glades, which should have been trails in the first place. Backwoods is 60 feet wide, which is about the same width...

    Whiteface Conditions

Conditions were largely mediocre, particularly on the upper mountain, but the place was empty, the sun was out, and I got a lot of good runs. The conditions being better down low is the reason I took so many laps on Facelift and Notch. Also, I like The Notch a lot more than I thought I would...

Why the hate for Backwoods? It was never billed as a natural trail. It's had snowmaking from day 1, and was graded to be a blue. Are you against making it easier to get to the ski bowl? My only issue with it is that Paradox and Eagle's Nest weren't widened, so it creates a bottleneck.

    Gore Mountain Conditions

It's so on-brand for ORDA. Expand the mountain or sign up to host large events, and then don't scale the operation accordingly.

    Gore Mountain Conditions

None of the capital allocated last year went to increasing snowmaking capacity. It was all for efficiency upgrades and expanding snowmaking footprint. No matter what the reservoir size is, or how many automated low E guns they have, they can still pump 4800 gpm out of the Hudson, and 6800 gpm...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

I've definitely seen them both closed, though not this year. Echo is designed to be the race trail, and Sagamore isn't. After expanding snowmaking capacity, they need to cut another trail from Burnt Ridge to the main base. This would unfortunately be the end for Cirque Glades, though it's...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Sagamore is now being given away to the race program? As if Echo being closed almost every weekend wasn't good enough for them? You've got to be kidding me.
