    Gore Mountain Conditions

Other than 2011-2012 and 2015-2016 where it was only open one weekend, and didn't open at all, I have found the opening of the ski bowl to be oddly consistent. It has always been late January or early February. They did open it in December in 2012 and 2017 on natural snow, but it had to close...

Couldn't have said it any better myself. Perfectly describes Gore over the last 17 years. I thought Gore did a decent job last year, but the other two ski areas I visit most often are Killington and Whiteface, and last year, both put out their worst seasonal efforts in my season pass history. I...

This is the first time in my season pass history that Lookout has been open during Chevy Weekend, at least when that event has been on its normal schedule. In 2023, it was moved to the second weekend of President's Week due to the university games.

My shorthanded response was my previous post. This is the more detailed one. They have a significant number of trails that are not open, which currently have no active snowmaking. I'll divide them into 3 categories. First is the never skip category. They will in all likelihood open these trails...

It's not 100% by Christmas, it's all lifts by Christmas. I like to see all snowmaking trails by MLK Weekend or at least the end of January. But yes, Gore is far enough behind that there will likely be many trails that don't make the cut.

They're reporting snowmaking on Eagle's Nest, but lied. Nice job. And now Burnt Ridge will be completely closed for racing all day tomorrow as a result. Same. I'm disgusted with how far behind their snowmaking is, given how favorable the weather has been. I don't get it. I really don't. They...

I think it will open eventually. Remember, it's still early January. I don't think it opens by MLK Weekend though.

Thanks for the update. They're doing an excellent job with snowmaking this year. I think just Supertrail, Upper Standard, and Lift Line they have not gotten to yet.

The problem is you may get blocked if you try. People do need to start emailing management and complaining though. There is simply no way that with the consistent cold weather and their abundant water supply, that they should be behind where they were last year. They reported snowmaking on...

Did anyone lay eyes on Bear Down or Free Fall? Free Fall was reported open and groomed, but they hadn't previously reported snowmaking on it. Meanwhile, they reported snowmaking on Bear Down, but it has not opened yet.

This year, the weather was there if you wanted to make something happen. Instead, Gore is actually behind where they were this time last year. Everyone else is way ahead.

Lower Darby was all natural. Cloud, Little Cloud, Wood Lot South, and Wood In had seen some snowmaking.

You can get to Straightbrook via gondola to Pine Knot. Or High Peaks via AE2 or Ruby to Wood In. Yesterday, Headwaters was not open, but that may have changed.

I had originally planned to go to Whiteface today with my friend from work. But he slept through his multiple alarms and was running an hour late. Rather than arrive at Whiteface at 9:30 on a holiday weekend, we switched to plan B, which was Gore, arriving at about 8:10. While the trails were...

    Whiteface Conditions

Whiteface has every lift available, as in there are open snowmaking trails to all lifts, but doesn't need to use Freeway or Mountain Run. They have the most terrain ever available on this date, and the earliest opening of Wilmington ever.

Totally agreed about Gore. They have performed very poorly so far this season. They allowed delays to the gondola cabin replacement to cripple their snowmaking and terrain expansion elsewhere. They did not adjust their snowmaking plans around it. They just threw up their hands and ran at reduced...

    Whiteface Conditions

Since it seems all but assured that Lookout is opening tomorrow, Whiteface will have all 3 peaks open earlier than ever. They were able to open Lookout before Gore opened Straightbrook, and before Killington opened Skyeship. Has any other ski area improved snowmaking by that big of a magnitude...

    Whiteface Conditions

While I applaud the effort to get Wilmington open this early, and think it should be the strategy every year, they put off a lot of things to make it happen. I think the next priorities will be Upper Valley, the rest of Mountain Run, Danny's Bridge, and the rest of Bear. All of that was skipped...
