Never too bad? Let's not sugarcoat having a major lift down on a busy weekend. Today was best if you stayed on the upper mountain all day, and my best day so far this season.

Belleayre needs to expand, period. They are bursting at the seams. With Hunter's operational failures under Vail Resorts, and Windham trying to go private (no weekend Ikon reservations till March 23rd), it's sending a lot more people to Belleayre, and they need to step up to the challenge.

I assume they'll finish Echo soon. They haven't started on Cedars or Hedges yet, so I don't see it opening in time for this weekend. Last year, they covered the other two Burnt Ridge trails shortly after Echo.

Worst season since 15-16

The 3 main trails off the Lightning lift are Iroquois, Huron, Mohican. There's also Discovery Way which branches off of Mohican further down. None of those require crossing in front of the bridge. It's always been uphill to get to Dakota or The Canyon, so they are mostly used to access the new...

All of the greens are on one side of the bridge. There is no reason for anyone coming off the Lightning lift to cross in front of it. Once Chinook, Canyon, and Dakota are fully open, then you'll be able to get to the greens coming from the other side without crossing in front of the bridge.

I know the lighting isn't great, but a north facing mountain in December doesn't always result in good lighting. I did the best I could.

Those are just the top speeds, and not the speeds that they necessarily run at. I took a video of the new lift today, which was running at 400 fpm. The old lift was run slower, but because the new one is longer, that means a longer ride time.

I rode the new lift on opening day. It makes it a whole lot easier to get out of Bear Den, but I still find that it's awkwardly located. Beginners who intend to lap it will end up at the main base instead, without an easy way to get back. Of course, I took a bunch of pictures:

A wet morning turned into an unexpected powder day at the top. 3 inches by the time I left. However, the lower mountain was very cementy. 6 trails open off the top, those being West Meadow, Drifter, and Spruce off Snow Bowl, and Frank's Fall Line, Polar Bear, and Black Bear off URSA.
