    Gore Mountain Conditions

It's a Monday, let's run only one lift. Not worth a vacation day.

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Never too bad? Let's not sugarcoat having a major lift down on a busy weekend. Today was best if you stayed on the upper mountain all day, and my best day so far this season.

    Belleayre Conditions

Belleayre needs to expand, period. They are bursting at the seams. With Hunter's operational failures under Vail Resorts, and Windham trying to go private (no weekend Ikon reservations till March 23rd), it's sending a lot more people to Belleayre, and they need to step up to the challenge.

    Gore Mountain Conditions

I assume they'll finish Echo soon. They haven't started on Cedars or Hedges yet, so I don't see it opening in time for this weekend. Last year, they covered the other two Burnt Ridge trails shortly after Echo.

    Gore Mountain Conditions

The haulrope was replaced in 2015, but I'm not aware of any other work that was done other than routine maintenance. The gondola is 24 years old, and at that age, for detachables that run year round, usually a decision needs to be made on whether to complete a full overhaul of all major...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Gore is so bad at updating their snow report sometimes. If they're reporting the trails open, then the lifts have to also open. I would expect a delayed opening for the summit tomorrow, since they are attempting a very quick turnaround with Wood In. They hadn't even started making snow there as...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

I heard it was a gearbox failure, if true, then 2 weeks sounds about right. They're lucky they didn't have to do a rope evac.

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Actually, the old lift broke back in 2021 and was down for like the last 2 months of the season.

Because Skytrac won the bid. This is not rocket science.

    Gore Mountain Conditions

They built the Bear Cub Quad because Gore lacked a true beginner lift at the main base. The old platter lift was inadequate because it had terrible capacity, and often had long lines. They obviously have significant issues that need to be fixed, but there's no question that it was worth it to...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

I was on the upper mountain when the gondola broke down. I may have been one of the last people to ski it for a while. We've had this discussion before. The Wood Lots don't have close enough gun spacing for a quick turnaround, so it can't open early season. Even if they did, and the...

    Belleayre Conditions

The 3 main trails off the Lightning lift are Iroquois, Huron, Mohican. There's also Discovery Way which branches off of Mohican further down. None of those require crossing in front of the bridge. It's always been uphill to get to Dakota or The Canyon, so they are mostly used to access the new...

    Belleayre Conditions

All of the greens are on one side of the bridge. There is no reason for anyone coming off the Lightning lift to cross in front of it. Once Chinook, Canyon, and Dakota are fully open, then you'll be able to get to the greens coming from the other side without crossing in front of the bridge.

    Belleayre Conditions

I know the lighting isn't great, but a north facing mountain in December doesn't always result in good lighting. I did the best I could.

    Belleayre Conditions

Even though I live north of Albany, I was enticed by Belleayre's amount of terrain open, and the chance to ride a brand new lift. About 50% of terrain was open, and all lifts. Conditions were decent, though light became very flat in the afternoon. There were no long lift lines, but some trails...

    Belleayre Conditions

Those are just the top speeds, and not the speeds that they necessarily run at. I took a video of the new lift today, which was running at 400 fpm. The old lift was run slower, but because the new one is longer, that means a longer ride time.

    Whiteface Conditions

I rode the new lift on opening day. It makes it a whole lot easier to get out of Bear Den, but I still find that it's awkwardly located. Beginners who intend to lap it will end up at the main base instead, without an easy way to get back. Of course, I took a bunch of pictures:

    Stratton Conditions

A wet morning turned into an unexpected powder day at the top. 3 inches by the time I left. However, the lower mountain was very cementy. 6 trails open off the top, those being West Meadow, Drifter, and Spruce off Snow Bowl, and Frank's Fall Line, Polar Bear, and Black Bear off URSA.
