Where are you skiing this week?

Essex County NY in state of emergency because ice storm. Races delayed at Mt van Ho today. Then 60 degrees and rain on Monday. If van Ho survives, I'll ski on Tuesday or Wednesday.

    Spring Weather 2025

I live in Saranac Lake. Whiteface reports 4" - 6" of snow, mainly at higher elevations. Last night, I got a couple inches of snow followed by a quarter inch of ice.

    Mt van Hoevenberg Conditions

This week, I'm reporting on the SuperTour finals for www.nordicinsights.news. Yesterday was the men's and women's sprints. You're safer at a dang NASCAR race than by the top skiers hurtling down this hill millimeters from the V-boards. Second foto: newly crowned men's sprint national champion...

    Spring Weather 2025

Stowe, Craftsbury, and Jay in VT all getting a couple inches of snow on Saturday. Craftsbury has hung them up fr the season. Trapp Family Lodge hopes to reopen this weekend. Rain on Sunday. Ugh.

    Spring Weather 2025

Upper part of the mountain might get that. NOAA forecast calls for 1" - 2" in Lake Placid. Wintry mix on Saturday followed by rain and freezing rain. Rain and freezing rain on Sunday. Gonna play havoc with the races at the Ho this weekend. Anyone fancy ski prep and racing 40 km classic...

    Spring Weather 2025

Today, NOAA forecast was for less than 0.5 inch of snow in the Tri-Lakes. Intermittent snow throughout the day, including a dang whiteout after the SuperTour races finished. Ya don't like the weather? Wait 30 minutes.

    Mt van Hoevenberg Conditions

Only the World Cup trails are open at Mt van Ho. The recent thaw took out the 1980 trails, as well as every other nordic ski center nearby. The World Cup trails still have a most excellent base. Teams are trickling in for the SuperTour finals, and there's a palpable stoke in the air. Photo...

Where are you skiing this week?

I think Paul Smiths VIC is done for the year. Craftsbury cancelled this weekend's races because no snow. That leaves the Ho.

    Spring Weather 2025

This is good. Last super warm day in the Tri-Lakes for a while. Weather should be more seasonable for the SuperTour finals.

    Mount Pisgah Conditions

Basic athletic stance for many sports. I'd like to get my backside lower, skis closer together, and a bit more parallel. I had the sensation of speed even though going comparatively slow... max speed 14mph.

    Winter Weather 2024/25

61 for the high in the Tri-Lakes. We might see a couple inches of snow Thursday into Friday.

    Mount Pisgah Conditions

Skis are Fischer S-Bound 98 Crown/Dual Skin. Full length metal edge; Rottefella Xplore bindings where you clip in at the side of your foot, not the toe. I was skeptical, but I like them. Alpina Pioneer Pro boots. On a side note, Madshus just released a skate boot where one clips in under the...

    Mount Pisgah Conditions

A bluebird, spring day at my local alpine bump. From earlier today (18 March). Met up with @Capt_Planit to earn turns at Mount Pisgah in Saranac Lake. Not sure if my descending skills improved, but I had fun. And of course, good to meet another NYSB person. Come git some while you can.
