    Belleayre Conditions

Great day at Belle today: notched 27,000 feet of vertical in 5 hours on the mountain! I arrived at 8:30, parked at Tomahawk and rode the first lift up. The summit was in a thick cloud which limited visibility to a few yards! I warmed up on Deer Run and then did a slow cruise down Dot — which...

    Belleayre Conditions

We went to Belle yesterday for our first runs of season. Like G. ski mentioned, the surroundings have very little natural snow, but they’ve been done a good job with the snow making on the mountain. Conditions yesterday were pretty decent if your frame of reference is “early season Ice Coast”...

    Belleayre Conditions

Howdy everyone! The weather looks cold and decent chances of snow at Belleayre throughout the coming week. Anyone care to make a prediction on what might be open by next weekend? Would love to make a day trip next Sunday!

    The Incredible Music Thread

I’m going to go out on a limb here, but... Listening to the Dead live recordings is kinda like skiing at your regular mountain. The repertoire of songs never changes, but the set list and jams are always different. There’s always something new to discover. (And a lot of forgettable familiar...

    What is your dream?

+1 Meanwhile here on Earth, I learned about this artificial ski slope in Denmark: https://www.dezeen.com/2019/10/08/big-copenhill-power-plant-ski-slope-copenhagen/

    What is your skiing history?

Haha! Oxford, MS definitely counts as tropical. I have a friend who lives there now and is always complaining about the wildlife: snakes, fire ants, hornets.

    What is your skiing history?

I started skiing around 7th grade, at a place called Yawgoo Valley. It’s Rhode Island’s only lift-served ski hill. I remember taking one lesson, deciding I was ready for the lift, and tucking straight down a blue square and crashing into a fence at the bottom. My parents weren’t really skiers...

    Spring Weather 2021

Wild ramps are one of the surest signs of spring. I saw some for the first time this season at the market this morning. I bought a handful and made some delicious ramp butter. That cheered me up on an otherwise dreary and rainy Sunday.

    Purchasing Land

You should read The Overstory by Richard Powers. It’s a novel about big old trees, outliving the generations of people who come and go around them. I actually listened to it as an audiobook during a trip to Gore.

    Belleayre Conditions

Belleayre was beautiful today. Skied 8:30 - 3:30. Bluebird skies, soft snow, only a few lines (on Superchief). I would love to get one more day in this year but I worry it’s going to be too wet and warm... ?
