Nice report! How's the 'newer' T-Bar terrain? Get to check out Leadville?

    Windham Conditions

I don't gather 'stats' when I'm biking or skiing, except human-powered vert... Still holding off on a speedo on the bicycles. But re: windham terrain- fast chairs to two peaks both with some good sustained pitch. More solid glade terrain than actual glades, by my estimation.

    Windham Conditions

Great day at Windham yesterday. Chairlift day #2 for me, on the skis 930-330. 4" overnight it seemed.. Trails 100% open. Overall nice lift layout for spreading people out, and way more ungroomed than I expected. Worth keeping an eye out for unmarked snowmaking stuff, gulleys, especially at...

I agree. It's nice to have in the pocket but ideally stays there. I've resisted any bike speedos for similar reasons.

Somehow my phone does OK battery wise, had service majority of times I did pop out of Airplane mode... Massive Ottercase may help with the battery. I bring physical topo maps also. I use (Avenza Map app) to drop pins and record tracks. I use CalTopo to make my own maps (scale, layers, trails...

    Skis

Success?!? Another one to look into is this years' Armada Declivity (Zero Series). Looks like a sweet touring/all mountain ski. But probably hard to find a deal (new model). I miss working in a shop and being able to demo all the new goodies!

    Skis

I haven't skied the Elan or Volkl, but have similar ski preferences... Fischer Ranger FR 94, 102? and Head Kore 99 are worth a look. I'm really enjoying the Kore over the Salomon QST 99, which felt to planky. Either the lighter weight or construction (both?) on the Kore add some pop vs. the...

    Passes for 2020 - 2021

Questionable whether I will use my Ikon- tempting to break into the 5 days at Windham, only doing that if I commit plans for Utah in Feb and/or Sugarbush in March. Either way the ORDA FSC will get used at Belle and Gore... Possible that'll be my only chairlift skiing this season :/ Tempting to...

I think many people other than 'trail runners,' esp. in the Northeast, are looking to skin uphill at resorts this season. Ppl with dogs, learning new touring gear, Type A fitness lap folk, maybe even someone that can't afford a $100 ticket... Let alone when that's the only decent snow around...

Touring in the Gunks, NY: Dec 2020

It's my 3rd winter living in New Paltz, and in the Northeast. This weeks' storm was the first where I took the time to explore close to home on the AT gear. Good turns were had, awesome to ski some zones I've been eyeing on hikes and bike rides for years! I wouldn't recommend going to great...

    Let’s Talk Packs!

I've used A-frame for boot packing steep hiking trails and steeps, seemed OK to me. Diagonal carry when I rode two-up/Canadian doing snowmobile laps would have been better, in hindsight. I've also trended towards A frame in part because it offers more anchor points w my setup. Dedicated/easy...

What a great set-up for their opening weekend, and for us skiers! I'm super curious in general how getting permission and paying if needed to earn turns on non-operating days would work. I don't have a season pass. If there were a way, I'd be in. Maybe I'll reach out earlier next week? Windham...
