    Gore Mountain Conditions

In what way? Belleayre had a complete melt out of natural snow Xmas week but they still came back. Gore showed this week that they have the capacity to cover the whole mountain in a short time. Killington is bigger than Gore and opens more earlier. Why should we expect to wait till February to...

Belleayre was 100% (except for 2 trails where they were blasting snow) on January 7 this year. Just sayin' mm

No. It just shows what the Gore system was designed to do, and proves that the problem was mismanagement, including the failure to hire enough workers. Northeast resorts need to be able to start from zero two or three times a year. That's just the reality of the new normal weather. mm

I double ejected into the creek there. I thought you saw that. mm

Really good today. Darby woods is the ROTD. If you need to complain, the soup is broccoli cheese. mm

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Next year will be fine. They’ve demonstrated that they can cover the whole mountain in ~2 weeks and we’ve learned how to get ORDA’s attention. They’ll have no excuses next year. Also, Whiteface is way better for steep trails and Bear Den is the best by far for beginners, but WF is also...

That surprises me because Howie told me that lift was gonna be replaced. I guess that’s not gonna happen. mm

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Now for something completely different. What’s going on at the Straightbrook quad? Two years ago Howie told me that was the next lift to be replaced, now Topridge is next. If they are gonna replace the lift I’m sure they didn’t put on a new rope this year. Why can’t they hold tension? If they...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

It’s great the Gore turned it around in the last ~2 weeks or so, but that’s the kind of snow making performance that we should expect from the beginning of the season. That’s what ORDA did at Belleayre and Whiteface this year and they should have done it at Gore too. mm

    Gore Mountain Conditions

That’s too bad. I was there Wednesday and Thursday and it seemed like they were finally getting it together. They made huge piles on Foxlair that groomed out nicely yesterday and Hawkeye might have been the best groomed trail I ever skied. mm

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Gore was really good yesterday and today. No new snow today but Hawkeye was groomed out better than I've ever seen it before. It was a short day so I didn't get to Burnt Ridge or the Ski Bowl. They were making snow on the Hole Shot course and Pine Knot, Lies and Rumor. Open Pit was good on...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

It was good today. Steilhang was open all the way. Darby, Straightbrook, Chateimac and Chatterbox glades were all open with nice snow but not enough base. Twin Fawns was open. It got windy in the afternoon. Hulabaloo was the run of the day. Best day of the year so far. It was a bigger crowd...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Game changer for Topridge and Burnt Ridge too. They would have done better to replace Topridge with a high speed quad instead of keeping it fixed grip. mm

    Gore Mountain, NY: 01/18/2025

@snoloco we agree the Gore has overcommitted to what their mountain ops can support. They seem to have an adequate physical plant but they apparently failed to hire enough workers to use it effectively. Volunteering for the power curtailment program hurt them this year as well. Those are within...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

I was there today and it looked to me like less volume of snowmaking than I've seen every cold day I've been to Whiteface, Belleayre or Windham this year. The section of Sunway that was impassable 10 days age was the best snow on the mountain, but the majority of trails still have bare spots and...

    Gore Mountain, NY: 01/18/2025

Nope. They opted into one of the two load reduction programs and are paid to participate. If they choose not to curtail, they forego the payments due in one program, or they are billed higher rates for a few hours in the other program, That's all. The question is how much do those programs...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

I don’t think they can stay open until mid March unless they get more than one big storm. Except for the race course the whole mountain is really thin. mm

    Gore Mountain, NY: 01/18/2025

If that’s true it means Whiteface is prioritizing snowmaking over curtailment payments which is invite opposite of Gore. But the real questions are how much are operations disrupted and why participate at all if there is a high probability of significant disruption? Participants get a...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

It doesn’t need to be upgraded like Whiteface. It only needs reasonable snowmaking. It doesn’t need a $40 million zippy thingy. mm
