    Gore Mountain Conditions

Some of you may recognize a familiar face . . . thanks to this gentleman for his work at the base of the AE2. https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/poststar/name/michael-durkin-obituary?id=56648220

    Skiing with an ICD/Pacemaker?

After a heart incident in December (not a heart attack, but ventricular tachycardia) and having my life saved in the ER, three days later the doctors put in an Implanted Cardioverter/Defibrillator, which is similar to a pacemaker in terms of muscle location (on top of left pec muscle) and...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Sitting in mid mountain lodge -- again, no fire. I've been here twice this season, very cold days, no fire going. Makes no sense.

Beech Mountain Water Pipe Burst, Skier Trapped in Lift

this is a new kind of horror

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Good question, there is nothing anywhere at the base indicating what is open and what isn't. (Maybe I missed it but I looked a few places.) I asked one of the lifties at the gondola loading station-- reply was "I don't know, they don't tell us anything." So I guess it is customers and staff...

    Gore Mountain Conditions

Skied today . . . we drove up last night and stayed at the Super 8 in Warrensburg as I did not want to do a 5:30 a.m. departure from Poughkeepsie. (Clean and cheap -- would stay again.) Got there before they started sending people up. Early runs were hard and fast, but hard to see because of...

The Definitive Solution to the Upstate NY Question

OK, so I grew up in Queens (Howard Beach), and now I live in Poughkeepsie, so I think I have a good understanding. "Upstate" is like "young" and "old" in that it is relative. When you are 20, anyone under 16 is "young" and anyone over 30 is "old". When you are in your 50s, "young" is anyone...

    Plattekill Conditions

I had the opposite feeling -- when I was in the upstairs lodge at Platty, with a bunch of people sitting unmasked eating in what felt like a close, stuffy, unventilated space (which I know folks are allowed to do, and if I had little kids I'd likely be in the warm spot as well), I was kind of...

    Plattekill Conditions

That is awesome . . . I moved to Pok in 2004 -- is this from when there was a ski hill at Beacon?

    Plattekill Conditions

Was there today. Can confirm, about 4-5 inches of fresh powder on top of icy base on the steeps. Trees looked mostly untracked. My daughter had a ball -- but a lot of work for me, I'm more of a cruiser.

    What's in your yard (snow)?

Probably about 18-20 inches in Poughkeepsie

    Hunter didn't open today.

As a lawyer, I can confirm that!

    Hunter Conditions

Today was my first visit to Hunter -- I see why people like it, really enjoyed the back side (Hunter North?) Some of those trails that were not open under the lift line looked like they could be a lot of fun. Pretty good coverage everywhere that was open. Crowds, but the lines moved fast...

    Catamount Conditions

Was there this morning. Pulled into lot around 8:20 a.m. Had to wait in line to get a replacement RFID card for youngest daughter. Only about 50% of the trails open. We got almost 14 inches in Pok for the storm so I was expecting more. Looks like they got less than a foot. A lot of rocks ...

    COVID nor'easter

Waited too long to buy tickets . . . Plattekill, Hunter and Windham all sold out for this weekend.

    COVID nor'easter

Sunday is going to have to be the day for us. Question is -- where? Hunter? (I've never been.) Platty? Belle? Doesn't seem like a day trip up to Gore is worth it. Question how much snow they will get and what will be open.

    Passes for 2020 - 2021

Actually, the terrible cell and cable service in North Creek stopped me from buying a condo a few years ago. I need fast internet in order to work, even on weekends. Are they finally entering the 21st century?
