Montage, PA: 2/23/25 on the Indy Pass

Playing with the interactive maps on SteepSeeker for Montage and Camelback is interesting. Clicking on a trail name gives extra stats now. Becomes pretty obvious that for an advanced skier, the black trails at Montage are more challenging than those at Camelback. Of course, no substitute for...

Montage, PA: 2/23/25 on the Indy Pass

Haven't skied Camelback but have stopped by the base during the green season to get a feel for the place. My sense is that Camelback is a "ski resort" while Montage is a "ski area." Montage theoretically has more vertical, but that only makes a difference for a couple of routes that go from...

Montage, PA: 2/23/25 on the Indy Pass

Need to get on the Wait List this week to have any chance of buying an Indy pass for next season. Public sales start March 1. No guarantee there will be sales again, and no way to predict when that might happen. Can get a refund later in the year if Indy doesn't have 250 locations or if your...

    The Indy Pass

Have learned that anyone who wants to renew Indy for 2025-26 but would like to change to a different type of Indy Pass should auto-renew before March 1. Then send an email later to request the change. Sounds like they would like the change requests to come after public sales end but still in...

Denver area IKON pass ski recommendation

Not going to argue about terrain, but as for higher altitude . . . I just experienced the difference between bases that differ by 1000 ft when in mountains over 9000 ft. I slept at over 7000 ft for 10 nights and was skiing Taos before going to Wolf Creek for Pres. Day weekend. Slept at 8200 ft...

Montage, PA: 2/23/25 on the Indy Pass

Great pics and trip report, as always. :) The entire main base area becomes a water park during the warm months. Believe it or not, there is a Lazy River right in front of the base lodge. There is a wave pool near that spiral water slide. I've stopped by more than once on my way to/from Lake...

Where are you skiing this week?

Montage has an unusual layout. The base is in the middle of the mountain. I prefer to park in the corner of the main parking lot that is close to the black trails. If it's warm, I may boot up at the car. In any case, I walk over to the base buildings to get my Indy Pass redemption done...

Denver area IKON pass ski recommendation

Not Eldora. ABasin is the easiest to figure out. Shorter drive than Copper or Winter Park. I think parking on weekends is pay only because parking space is the rate limiting factor. Depending on the timing of when you are driving on I-70, it's a toss up between Copper and Winter Park. Both...

Help legendary ski photographer get book printed!

The Kickstarter campaign is over. Anyone who wants to pre-order a book can do so on Wade's website for $139. The Kickstarter "price" for one book was $120. Sounds like he'll ship pre-orders and Kickstarter books at the same time in June. Of course, assuming he gets the bulk shipments on time.

    Winter Weather 2024/25

While I'm skiing Taos in low snow conditions . . . there is snow in the yard at my house in NC. Also snowing at Massanutten, plus they are pumping out snow onto the tubing hill as much as possible. It's 15 degrees at the Mnut summit as of 9am on Feb. 20! Mnut is prepping for the Snow Moon...

The Double Chair Podcast is live

Hard to watch a YouTube video while driving. ;) Listened to Episode 2 a couple evenings ago while packing up to check out of slopeside lodging at Taos. Enjoyed the content . . . and the voices.

For a story of another well known JH person, check out the article that @jamesdeluxe wrote about Bob Peters in 2011. I used Bob's Unofficial Guide before my first trip to Jackson in 2014. https://nyskiblog.com/magazine/the-west/jackson-hole-wy-bob-peters/

Help legendary ski photographer get book printed!

The Kickstarter campaign is a clear success. Goal was $80K. As of Feb. 11, total pledged is just over $83K from 401 people. Most people pledged $120 for one book, while about 70 want 3 or 6 books.

Help legendary ski photographer get book printed!

As of Sunday night, Feb. 9, if about 30 more people pledge $120 for 1 book that will just about put the total over the $80,000 goal. Still 12 days to go.

Powder has an article about Wade McKoy's book. The average number of backers for the Kickstarter is over 70 per day after only 3.5 days. Reaching the goal could happen in another day or two. Over 300 people have pledged for 1 or more books. February 5, 2025...
