    Brian Head, UT: 3/16/25

Like the rest of Utah, there wasn't much snowfall at Brian Head in January and into mid-February so it's a low snow winter. Was not quite 60% of average as of mid-March. However, there was a big, cold snowstorm that dropped over 2 feet of good snow March 13-15 just before we went. Temps...

    Brian Head, UT: 3/16/25

Noticed the burn areas on the drive up to Brian Head. We opted to stay in Beaver, UT at the Best Western Butch Cassidy Inn (really!) to ski Brian Head. We drove from Boise on US93 south of Twin Falls instead of staying on the Interstate highway. Not only to avoid traffic in Ogden/SLC, also...

    Greek Peak Conditions

For those not on FB . . . quite an impressive fundraiser! The total raised was over $14,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Central NY. The solo winner did 156 runs! The winning duo did 172 duo runs. The winning foursome did 527 team runs, an average of 131 runs.

    Utah - March 8-11 2025

Riding up in a full tram . . . yeah, like a subway ride. Especially for someone on the short side. On the other hand, riding down in an empty tram is a great way to see the views. Learned that when I was showing around my friend who was an intermediate. Took her up to meet with everyone for...

    Spring Weather 2025

Meanwhile, Sun Valley has had too much snow and winter-type weather leading up to the WC races March 22-27. March 21, 2025 https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2025/mar/21/how-sun-valley-built-the-racecourse-for-the-fis-sk/ March 20, 2025...

    Basketball & March Madness

Non-stop flight went fine yesterday. Didn't matter that it was delayed for 30 minutes because of an issue with another flight using the gate next door. Thanks for asking. Couldn't find a way to watch the Carolina game, but learned how to listen to all the NCAA games for free. Glad the...

Where are you skiing this week?

Virginia got toasted. Massanutten planned to be open March 16, then March 21-23. Had to close last Sunday due the high winds with the storm and to much washed away. So March 15 was the last day. Wintergreen also shut down after March 15 but they had March 16 as closing day. There is fresh...

    Brian Head, UT: 3/16/25

No problem. Maybe after I do a trip report for Brian Head, Harvey can move your post there. :) EDIT 3/24: We opted to just make this a Brian Head trip report.

    Basketball & March Madness

Guess I'll be paying attention to a Carolina basketball game after I get home on Thursday. First real game in the NCAA tournament will be Friday evening afternoon after they blew out San Diego tonight. :)

    Season Passes

Makes sense to be fully flexible given the way winter driving and weather is in that region. When I had reasons to drive to Lake Placid or Boston while my daughter was in school up north, I checked out a few places. Did an Indy ski safari that included Catamount, Berkshire East, West Mountain...

US Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame, Lake Placid, March 26-29, 2025; Silent Auction fundraiser

The US Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame annual gathering to induct new honorees will be in Lake Placid March 26-29. There is an online silent auction fundraiser in progress until March 29. Items include historical stuff from the 1980 Olympics, lift tickets from SLC resorts, a few pairs of skis...

    Season Passes

Between eliminating Ikon and raising the price of the full pass, sounds like there will a lot fewer people skiing Windham on weekends next season. Did you consider the Indy Pass?

    Season Passes

Started longer ago than you think. In the southeast, most season passes didn't go on sale until the fall 10-15 years ago. Early bird prices for 1-location season passes have had deadlines in March or April for most ski areas/resorts in the region for 5-10 years. I'm on a few e-lists in the...

    Brian Head, UT: 3/16/25

My Idaho ski safari was supposed to end with a flight back to RDU from Boise. However, that changed when my non-skiing husband decided he wanted to start an annual tradition of staying in Las Vegas, mostly to see shows since he doesn't gamble at all. Bottom line is that led to deciding to...

    Season Passes

Interesting. Are day ticket prices for Windham going up too? The early bird prices for unlimited season passes are around $1000 for Jiminy Peak and Waterville Valley. The highest pass price I know of is Deer Valley, which is up to $3700. Big Sky's premium pass that includes unlimited tram...

    Tamarack, ID: March 11-12, 2025

The senior rate at Tamarack starts at 65, so I qualify. That meant for the 3rd day, I got an Indy discount and the senior rate. Tamarack was doing 30% off instead of 25%. My ticket for the snowy day was $48 with tax. My ski buddy who is over 70 and doesn't have Indy got a day ticket for a...

    Brundage, ID: March 9-10, 2025

My ski buddy is over 70. He doesn't have Indy. He got the senior discount at Brundage, which is for 65+. Saves $20 to get a ticket online in advance. But the software is fiddly when setting up a new account. He tried to buy a ticket using his phone and the Brundage WiFi while standing in...

    Basketball & March Madness

Ah well, I miss the ACC when the Big Four in NC were the heart of the conference: Carolina, NC State, Duke, Wake Forest. Stopped paying much attention after the league got over 12 teams. I'm a Tar Heel and my husband adopted Duke after moving to NC because he was an adjunct professor there...
