The overland craze is out of control

Using that chart to support the conclusion is even more problematic than that. The chart just plots two things against time. Almost anything could be substituted for the large vehicle number and the chart would still be accurate. Theoretically (I doubt this is true but it could be), small cars...

    The Jay Peak Saga

It ain't like Burke will ever be crowded, lol. It is all high speed lifts and trails have already been widened. New lodges have already been built. Condo build out is ongoing. Burke isn't known for early/late season, their snowmaking has historically been sub-par. It is possible that...

    The Jay Peak Saga

I don't think deal cards are ever coming back. I am surprised the SkiVT "card" is still going. It will be interesting to see who picks up Burke. As has been the case for a very long time... it is difficult thinking of who that mountain would benefit. The good news is that the damage is already...

    Love for Smuggs

A couple of years ago, I probably would have had personal feelings about this. But now... I dunno. Things seem different now. It feels like the party is over. When changes happen that I don't like, I think "oh, of course, I am surprised that didn't happen sooner" whereas I used to feel more...

Pickle Ball is the New Snowboarding

My condo association tennis courts largely went unused most of the year until they put down pickleball lines. Now, it sees use all weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and probably gets quite a bit of use when I am at work during the mid-week as well.

Our Accord was totaled and now I gotta buy a new car.

Why doesn't a hybrid make sense? Accord Hybrid covers the biggest fault of most hybrids it has great highway mileage in addition to great city mileage. I drive a Civic. Honda is stupid reliable and low maintenence. Honda's current interior/exterior design is great. They got rid of the stupid...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

If you can keep your front wheel on while loading a bike, your cargo space is more than big enough! Hatchbacks are so underrated. Why anyone buys sedans is beyond me (unless it is meant to be a sportscar, but even then... you could get a hot hatch). My hatch always has the back seats folded...

    Magic is Going RFID?

Really silly to pay someone to scan tickets instead of buying the gates and saving money over the long run. Cannon was hand scanning this season. Totally dumb and a major pain. I am not a fan of having to buy an RFID card at every area that I ski at. But if I must, then I should get the benefit...

    Bar up or bar down?

Smuggs lifties watch the chairs go up and will stop the lift and get on the speaker if you don't put the bar down. Outside of VT, I always leave the bar up unless someone else puts it down. Just let me know before you do it. AND its your responsibility to put it back up (with warning).

Skiers: If You Could Move Anywhere... ?

The bigger issue around here is the wind (though the humidity does suck). That NW gets funneled and rips through this area. I can deal with cold, but combined with that bitter wind, it can be quite taxing around here in the winter (especially when the snow sucks!). I lost a lot of weight...

    Detachable vs Fixed Grip Lifts

That is a crazy comparison! MRG and M1 service +2k' of terrain and some of the best expert terrain in the northeast. Magic is closer in comparison for vertical, but the Red Double doesn't feel as slow as the Attitash Triple (and Red services the entire mountain, which features the best expert...

Rest in Peace Betsy Pratt 3/12/28 - 03/17/23

I love the irony of those stickers since someone cared enough to buy one. :ROFLMAO:

It is good enough. Fact is, they started restricting ski visits during the pandemic and decided to keep doing it since. Obviously, any area hurting for revenue is not going to limit visits. A bad year is tough on the finances, but the Coop has a rainy day fund and can get by on a few bad...

    Magic Conditions

Three feet, three hours, three runs. Tough break for Magic, not their fault. Glad I left at noon and didn't bother waiting to see what happened, as they were not able to get power back up and running before close. It has been a long time since I've been in a legit three feet of untracked fresh...

    Spring Skiing?

Falling hurts less on soft snow than hard snow! Joking aside, you can always ski first thing in the morning and leave when things get too heavy for you. Spring skiing in the mountains often entails below freezing temps overnight that locks up the snow. 40*F is not going to soften the snow to...

    Saddleback and Sugarloaf, ME: 3/6 - 3/8/23

Indy already has a plan for next year. They are going to mail out RFID cards to pass holders that work at their partner resorts using the new company's ticketing system. I assume that Indy areas not part of that ticketing system are on their own. Ingenious business strategy, backing into Indy...

    Saddleback and Sugarloaf, ME: 3/6 - 3/8/23

I saw the device for getting an RFID card if you purchased online. Not available for Indy Pass (at least according to the Saddleback web site Indy Pass page). Next year the new Indy ownership promises a unified RFID card shipped to the buyer, which will help out at many Indy areas. They also...

    Saddleback and Sugarloaf, ME: 3/6 - 3/8/23

I have been meaning to get up there on the Indy Pass, finally got there yesterday. It was my fifth time at Saddleback since 2006, but my first time there since 2011. A lot has changed (high-speed quad and every chair full!), but a lot has not. The Kennegabo quad is perhaps the best expert...

Last time I went 16NH to 16ME was about a dozen years ago, it was a total roller coaster. Berlin to Erol got some paving done recently. I did that stretch on my road bike last summer and it was very nice. I remember 16ME after Erol was bad, but not epic like NH16. I assume it is much worse now...
