    Titus Conditions

@Ripitz Yeah, I think the maple operation is called Moon Valley Maple. I was once told in 3rd week of Jan that they had made an appreciable amount of syrup prior to that date! Warm winters allow for an extended syrup season I guess. They will also sell you (in no particular order) gravel...

    Titus Conditions

@Mike, ugh, sorry I missed you! I woulda said more like 2 inches, but NE pow day in either case! Cue @Brownski pow rant!! Guns blowing, and really only about 5 ways down. No gravel or any other hazards but it was getting thin by end of day. Snow cover pretty low, so there were lots of these...

    Love for Smuggs

Complex terrain I turned back here, about half-way to Stowe. Ski down was very short. Need to go back with more time (and light).

This is why every day on skis cannot be counted as a ski day! It would have been more fun if I hadn't forgotten the wax! Skin track to right, descent track to left, this is the bunny hill. But just look what grew at the top of the main slope (geez I crack me up!) over the summer! New...

Who buys Winter gear in May

Brownski once again FTW! Pinheads with big feet, start your engines! Should be 4 pairs left if their online stock-counter is correct. You don't still hold it against them for bullying the little guy do you? https://www.backcountry.com/alpina-alaska-75mm-backcountry-boot

    Today's Hike

Indian Pass Rock, one of the few camping spots in this vicinity. One with a very well-aerated water source! Hemmed in by cliffs, the trail sees little sun. Wallface mountain (highest cliff in the east, maybe) is back there somewhere. And yeah, I got some turns in! No, not on the snow, but...

    Titus Conditions

Approach. Don't fall in. Next, the WROD. Pretty good coverage overall. I have never skied in 80 degree temperatures. 5 runs took about 5.5 hours. I got well and truly toasted. There was definitely a wrong way to go! One WROD to rule them all... Exit.

Looks like closing time, Loon Lake Mountain trail, April 8, 2023 This was my high point. Might not look like much of a run, but I can assure you it skied worse than it looks! Pretty good coverage above about 2500 ft but I'm afraid the coming warm weather will take it all out. Was a good...

The briar patch, from below. There doesn't seem to be a way around this, but I am going to continue looking! The drop, or one of them, somehow it is always gloomy and spooky in here, even on a nice day! One of the more open areas above the drop and the briar patch. Snow was really good...

It was bump day at the jump. Or do I mean, jump day at the bump? Thank you Clarkson students for that massive party and jump building extravaganza 3 weeks ago. You'll pardon this oldster for not testing your engineering until there was some snow to land in?

Wanted: Used Telemark Gear for Kids

I will take a stab at this one. I will start by not answering the question. What has he got now? If he likes them, rip those bindings off and mount those boards up with the bindings from your rock skis. Does he still have tiny feet? He can have good boots, not too expensive on ebay, or on...

    Newcomb Ski Hill, NY: 2/16/23

@Harvey Most of the information I had was from this link: http://www.offonadventure.com/2015/03/xc-ski-upper-hudson-ski-loop-trail.html He has a number of pictures and a discussion of the Newcomb Lake ski hill at the end of his post. It is interesting to compare the snow level in his photos...

Most of you probably know about this place, located just south of town on the Goodnow Flow Road, but if you are unfamiliar please read on. If you just want conditions, please skip to the end. I love to go to these small northeast ski hills and imagine how it would have been, shooting down such a...
