Aftermath of Hurricane Helene in the NC mountains, late fall 2024

There's not a lot of money down there. Either natives or retirees. Some Boomers retire there because it's cheap and beautiful is a bonus. I was down there a few months ago in Franklin visiting a buddy who did just that. If you start enforcing "climate friendly" codes, you'll wind up putting...

Well, I suppose so. This was a really bad one. But, hey, everyone's getting 750 bucks!

Aftermath of Hurricane Helene in the NC mountains, late fall 2024

But, were there warnings in Asheville? Did anybody expect 22 inches of rain? Maybe some, of course, but this came on quick and was far from expected. There's a lot of people from Florida and gulf areas that can tell you about evacuating the family once or twice for dud storms in the past.

Aftermath of Hurricane Helene in the NC mountains, late fall 2024

Evacuation is expensive. You know the statistic that a majority of Americans couldn't come up with 500 cash in an emergency? Not everyone is walking around with a Mastercard in their pocket with plenty of room on it for a week or two stay in the next state. Western NC is far from the richest...

Aftermath of Hurricane Helene in the NC mountains, late fall 2024

Entire small towns were washed away. That area is screwed for a long time. I was down there (Franklin) a few months ago. Beautiful place. Crying shame it doesn't snow there. The skiing would be awesome.

Superstar is also a quick way to get from the K base over to Bear fast in the morning. That's what I use it for. And it's frequently down for wind, so I suspect the six isn't going in for added capacity, although it will help in that regard, but wind resistance. Time to go, anyway. Long live...

Yeah, but, be careful what you hope for. They can take a lot of ski areas down with them. And stay rich. Les Otten is a wealthy man.

Monarch brings in new GM from Mountain Creek.

Well, food and beverage is something a lot of people do in America. Probably the hardest thing is hiring and retaining people at, you know, food and beverage wages. Seasonal, on top of that. Tough job, but, has he ever patrolled or managed a patrol? This is a high Colorado powder/avi...

Silverball Arcade: Asbury Park NJ, 08/09/24

I saw Led Zep at the convention hall with Mott the Hoople opening on Zep's first tour. It was awesome. Does the Fast Lane still exist? Saw the Ramones there twice. Nothing like the fury of the Ramones in a small club. Asbury was a place to avoid from the late 70s to around 2000, then, all of a...

The overland craze is out of control

If you want to see the ultimate pimpmobile, when in Memphis, I highly recommend a visit to the Stax records museum, where, on display is Issac Hayes's gold plated Cadillac on a rotating platform. It's something else. https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/isaac-hayes-gold-plated-cadillac And...

    Whoa. Killington sold.

Why would anybody buy the place if deed restricted to not operate it? It's closed midweek, anyway. Has become the skinning capital of the area. I almost bought a condo there about ten years ago. 50 grand for a small renovated one bedroom, right at the base. Even if the hill shut down, it...

Do tell. Have some inside info how the new bosses are going to run s**t? Maybe the Village is toast. Who knows. That guy just wants to keep his job. He's doing a virtual job interview.
