Last week Mrs S made shepherds pie with moose burger meat my neighbor gave us from the beast he got up in Nova Scotia- deliscious!

After a 2 week recovery and a 12 week half marathon training plan following my October 19 half, getting ready to run a half in what looks to be a real feel of 6 degrees Saturday, January 24 makes me happy.

4 days out from the race, the feelings and twinges presented by the 'taper terrors' less so. My 'A' goal is sub 2:00 for a half marathon by July. Looks to be about 346 miles in this training block ending on Friday with a baby shake out run of 2.5-3 miles. The last long run was Friday, and the last quality/hard run was yesterday (1 x 10 min at race pace, 1 x 8 at race pace - cut down from 10 min as HR was a bit high). I am hoping that there won't be much ice on the course, but I am happy with my preparation, nutrition, and recovery.

Up next: 2 week post-race recovery (no quality/hard sessions for 10 days, 3 or so days of no running) and then I think off to a 5k training block, in an attempt to make me be not slow for a race about late March. I'll need good luck for that! Then some other filler races to lead me in the direction of hopefully a marathon attempt in October. Goal for that is to shave at least 60 minutes off my 11/2024 (slow) time, but goal is not firm yet. I have found when I keep a race circled on the calendar, I do my workouts.
