Avalanche

So sad. I hadn’t seen this on the NWAC site.

It has been quite an active week in the region with all the recent snow. Two avalanches resulting in burials were reported inbounds on Blackcomb yesterday: one off Chainsaw Ridge and another in Sapphire Bowl. I’m honestly shocked they even opened the alpine considering how windy it was this weekend. The winds were absolutely howling in the Baker backcountry on Saturday with lots of new wind slabs forming.

I’ve only toured the Baker backcountry once and it was off the back side of Ptarmigan Ridge. Definitely wouldn’t want to be anywhere out there with PWL issues lurking, which is seemingly everywhere these days.

Last weekend had a lot of avalanche activity throughout Colorado with multiple people caught in several different avalanches, fortunately no fatalities.
