I didn’t really feel like skiing today but I had the time, and I knew conditions at Greek Peak were shaping up better than most of the Finger Lakes. Greek had picked up some snow from a recent cycle and has been firing on all cylinders with snowmaking.
I checked the snow report the night before and was surprised to see Labyrinth Glade listed as open just 13 days into the season. That alone felt like reassurance that the drive would be worth it.
The parking lot looked busier than I expected, but with Chair 1 and Chair 4 as the main chairs running, there were no lines to speak of.
Despite my late start, I was pleasantly surprised to find natural snow across much of the mountain. I was a little wary of the snow depth in the trees, but there was enough to ski confidently.
Conditions were excellent, with more terrain in play than I anticipated. Olympian has been left completely natural so far this season and delivered a fun, technical run.
If I had to guess, Chair 5 looks close... I wouldn’t be surprised to see it open by Friday. The snowmaking whales stacked up on closed trails were impressive and a good sign of what’s coming next.
One of the lifties I talked to said this is the best start to a season they’ve had in his five years working there, which definitely showed on the hill.
