@BRLKED showed me yesterday. There might be a 'service wipers' button that lifts them up. Rivian has em. Check.
So now there are videos popping: yes not on sale now. But this will be released to Gen 2 R1s (not min or TJs) within the year. Pretty crazy. Not as good as tesla's but the videos are pretty impressive to this Rivian user. So, I think that the new chip will be in the R2 that will ultimately be able to do the taxi thing, but gen 2 R1s in a year will be able to do alot of what tesla self driving does (though I am sure it won't be as good as teslas at that point). Pretty interesting.Nothing on sale today will be capable of it right? From the little I heard only the R2 when it's released will have the new chip? Will new R1s eventually get it?
It will take anyone outside of a chinese co a LONG time to catch tesla, but Rivian has two useful circumstances: they are training AI from basically day one (vs many being software 'rules based' coding for a long time); Rivian is putting Lidar in the R2 (and that makes me think future gen R1s). That gives you beefier inputs (though tesla says it confuses the model - i am not near an expert in this but I think it is Elon being cheap/justifying).We're living in a new world where cars are more like phones, it's not just horespower and the number of CDs it can hold anymore.
As much as I like FSD I'm skeptical Tesla will get to full Unsupervised on the current HW4. My HW4 doesn't even have the front bumper camera that newer HW4's have. They already announced that HW5 is coming late next year I believe. Whatever version actually achieves level 4 will be highly valuable, and those that don't will not. I bought my Y but maybe I should have leased it for these reasons. Oh well.
Glad to see Rivian is getting in the game though. At some point I may trade in my Alltrack for something bigger, and if Rivian can catch up to Tesla that would be a highly compelling alternative
