Plattekill Conditions

No doubt. Once upon a time my brother and I went for their amateur mogul competition. Was a great day….until we got to the car and my brother realized he failed to zip the pocket he put his car keys in. That was a looong trek home.
No locksmith available?

It would be sick to see a trail like north face get seeded wall to wall for spring skiing. NF seems ideal imho since it has the least amount of character of the double trails, has the pitch for good bump skiing and the straight and wide profile would make seeding in a groomer easier than a narrower twisting trail (at least I think that makes sense).

ski Sundowns dedication to spring mogul skiing is pretty bad ass.

Damn that looks AI 🧐

Just saw this on IG

So what do we think about Friday? Any chance they might make snow Thursday night given they made some this past weekend? I'm considering scrapping Mohawk tomorrow for Plattekill or Gore Friday.

Wednesday Night
A chance of rain showers before 9pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 9pm and 10pm, then a chance of snow showers after 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Southeast wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Thursday
Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. Southeast wind 7 to 9 mph.
Thursday Night
Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. South wind around 7 mph.
Friday
Partly sunny, with a high near 51.

low around 28

That the point forecast low for 2800 feet. I'd be really surprised if they made snow at 28 degrees right before this weekend.

I'm not sure you'd want them to either.

Seems like its time to put the guns away and clean things up for the summer while they can still get around on cats.

Is that because the manmade snow will be sticky and adversely affect the potential spring corn snow? I would think that any late season snow they make could be used to build the base, fill in thing spots, and help repair rain damage. We're not even halfway through March, so anything that can extend the season would be helpful.

I always assumed 28 degrees was the minimum for making snow. Maybe with snowmax you could go warmer. (No idea if Plattekill uses snowmax.)

If 28 is the overnight low then how much of the night would be included in a snowmaking window? If it is just a few hours is it worth it to pay a crew to blow it?

Also that 28 was a point forecast for 2800 feet. Could you make snow top to bottom? The bottom is usually where you need the snow.

I think Laz would like to make the first weekend in April, but it's a long ways away.
