Belleayre Conditions

Fast flash frozen mid-winter fun. The ice is nice.

It was about as crowded as Belleayre can be today. All lots full, people parking on the mid-mountain road past the ski-bridge. And yet, I never had to wait very long (thanks to the singles lines) and the slopes didn't feel THAT crowded. A few near misses with teenagers trying to break the land speed record. :D

Gotta love how their first reaction is to kill the webcam. Wouldn't they want people to see progress on the repair?

Here's the same picture

Here's my analysis based on the picture:

The tree struck on the downhill side between towers 6 and 7. There are many large trees close to the lift in that area. The haulrope fully deroped on the downhill side on at least tower 7. It was not retained by the cable catchers. It is possible that it deroped from tower 6 as well, but is not visible in this picture. It is also possible that it deroped from the sheaves on other towers, but was retained by the cable catchers.

In order to reopen the lift, they would need to replace any damaged sheaves or other tower parts, inspect the nearby towers and the haulrope for further damage, and remove or replace any damaged chairs. It will likely be down for a while, but as long as there isn't any hidden damage to towers or the haulrope, it is likely not a season ending incident. Other lifts have had trees fall on them, and reopened the same season.

This lift has no chair parking at all. I saw a comment on Facebook saying it deroped from 3 towers, which would likely be 5, 6, and 7.
