Bristol Conditions

Great update! So happy to hear about Lower Northstar! You're definitely right, it's the best start in at least 3 years.
The winds brutal. Seems like it's been windy almost every day for over a week now.

1/10/25 , Day 2 for me

Arrived to sunny skies and mid-winter conditions. The way the hill is skiing and amount of terrain open feels like mid-February. They have done a great job making snow and focusing on individual trails, getting them open one by one.

In the photo you can see they are ready for their freestyle aerial event on lower challenger, quite the set up there.

North side of the mountain skiing sporty with Upper Universe still with large snowmaking whales. Many different and overlooked options on that side of the mountain. The Galaxy chair really spreads out the crowds effectively.

First time skiing Polar to Upper Northstar in a couple years for me, the widening of the trail is nice. I believe Lower NS opened today.

Upper Rocket, the marquee run, bumped up after 30+ hours of snowmaking, I was told. Some will complain about the ungroomed, snowmaking bumps on Rocket. They have done this for a few years and I really enjoy it. Plenty of other trails to ski if you prefer hardpack, groomed. A little scraped off, but much prefer the natural made bumps over hand dug.

Upper Meteor has plenty of snow to open, I’m assuming they opened today for the weekend. Comet skied well, frozen granular down the center but edges providing some soft snow to edge in to.

Something for everyone available today. Bristol has to be very happy with where they are at with coverage and openings. Not to mention energy costs for snowmaking.

Usually don’t venture on to the south end of the mountain, but I can imagine it was skiing just as well if not better.

Wow! For the first time in about 3 years Bristol is almost 100% open! Only things closed are Orions Belt and a couple of connectors. Finally got to ski Northstar top to bottom with the widened upper portion. Lower was chunky and marbley as often happens with newly groomed manmade, but it's open. Universe was a nice surprise-Upper still had the big whales, but plenty of soft moguls on the sides and Lower was nicely groomed with decent edgeability. Upper Meteor was slightly chunky, but not bad. Crowds were typical Sunday, but with all the terrain open, really seemed to spread things out. Quit about 11:30 to head to my daughters to watch the Bills game. Finally-Local skiing to be happy about!

Bristol is taking advantage of the lower temps and is blowing snow again today. Skied yesterday and today-first Adult Race League race this morning. Nice conditions and some sun. Clouded up later with flurries. Probably an inch or so of fresh last night. The newer opened trails still had some marbles but things are getting better.

Taking today off to give my legs a rest...........skied yesterday and they are still blowing snow. Only things not open are Orion's Belt and Shuttle-the connector from the top of the Galaxy quad to Upper Meteor. Still some marbles, but they seem to get a couple inches of snow each night which helps blend in and smooth things out. My wife and I braved the Siberian Crawler and did runs on Milky Way and Nova- a nice change. Whales still on Upper Universe-time to knock them down, the novelty is over.

As much as I don't like crowds, they should be in for a good MLK holiday weekend. After the past three lean years, they could use it! I'll skip Saturday, but hope to ski Sunday and Monday with the grandkids.

The marbles are starting to get broken up on Lower Northstar and some of the other more newly opened trails making for a much nicer surface. We even cut through Orion's Belt with mostly natural and some windblown snowgun snow-pretty thin but skiable. Looks good for the weekend-crowds today weren't bad with very short lift lines at the Comet chair and none at the Galaxy chair. Big Air/Mogul comp on Rocket tomorrow and maybe Sunday, so watch for hotshot freestylers straightlining down the hill (get off my snow!). Too bad we were inside having hot chocolate when the 30 seconds of sun peeked out!

FYI-according to the website, the Comet HSQ is down.I was all set to go, but I'm passing with that. I may drive by later on my way back to Roch and see if they got it going.

Tough timing on MLK weekend. Closed for “maintenance” described on their site. Certainly lacking some transparency as I’m assuming it wasn’t “planned”. At least they have the Galaxy Quad and entire mountain open - not usual for this time of year!

I checked before I left for Rochester and it was moving on the webcam. Checked recently and there were people on it, so fortunately only a brief inconvenience. I'll try tomorrow.
