While I did ski at Mt Brighton on 12/24/24 for a couple of hours to see how thongs went for me, I would call that my preseason and I officially started my season at my home hill Caberfae Peaks.
My Daughter and myself left the Ann Arbor area around 5am to make the 3.5hr drive north to Cadillac, MI. While I do not like the rain and warmer weather we were having it does make for some easy driving. We pulling into an empty lot around 8:30 and they did not open until 10, but that gave me time to say hello to the owners and talk a little.
We were booted up and on the lift by 9:55 with no rain, but with the forecast of off and on showers throughout the day I was sure at some point we were going to get wet. Caberfae's snow farmers have done a great job this year taking advantage of new snowmaking pump which added about 30% more capacity to their system. The top two pics are last year and the bottom two are this season. It looks as if they have more snow down this season already then they were able to get down last season due to always having to recover vs building a good base.
As we made our first few runs the snow was a little firm but you could easily get an edge in. We made three runs and the rain started, so we figured it would be a great time to go into the bar and get an Arlo's Ultimate Bloody Mary.
The rain would be off and on for the rest of the day, but never hard enough to soak through your outer layer. The snow had turned into a nice soft snow but not too wet or too soft. The off and on rain helped keep the crowds done and most of the time it was ski on or one or two people in front of you to get on the lifts.
The snow held up great all day and I am happy to say that after my surgery in the fall I also held up great with no issues. Today was a great start to my season with great friends and family.
