Belleayre Conditions

Untracked snow was thick but consistent. You could ski it and it was fun, but it was work. We were trying to ski with our shins, if that makes any sense.

When I got boot fitted recently by the coach of Colgate’s ski team he said, “I’m going to give ya a $100 lesson for free. Put pressure with your shins on the tongue of these boots”.
I replied, “Yup. Front of the boot."

You had maybe 1500 skiers riding on fixed one grip quad, and "two" trails on a day when Belle was the only hill open in the Cats. The day after a dump where Belle was in the bullseye.

If you couldn't anticipate it being "crowded" ... I don't get it.

Would those complaining have been happier if Belle didn't open?

I had an excellent day. Way better than expected.
I didn't go on Saturday, but from what I've seen, I think it's a legitimate criticism that they were unprepared for the number of people who showed up. I went today (Sunday), and they made adjustments to handle a larger crowd, such as running the gondola for upload/download to make additional parking available, a better lift queue setup with singles lines, and an employee grouping people to attempt to fill chairs.

More than 2 trails were open. Ropes were dropped on Deer Run, the lower skier's right fork of Seneca, Lift Line Glade, the unnamed trail under the gondola, and the lower section of Cayuga. It was among my best pre-Thanksgiving ski days.

OK fair point.

The gondi makes sense if you are going to open all that terrain. Maybe they weren't ready staff-wise to open it all up yesterday. Good audible for Sunday, there was plenty of snow.

Bottom line WF, Gore and Belle were nimble and aggressive and got open early.

I'll also agree on Saturday as my best pre-Thankgiving Day.

To be clear, I'm not sure any ropes were dropped on Sunday that weren't on Saturday. But they had significantly more trails open than they reported.

The gondola was open for upload/download only. All skiing was off Tomahawk. You couldn't ski to the base. The point I'm making is the things they changed on Sunday to handle a larger crowd should've also been done on Saturday.

WDST's Mountain Jam is going to be at Belleayre in June. It used to be at the F*** Vail place. I'm thoroughly stoked to see Khruangbin.

(Khruangbin hit it big in 2010 but they somehow got nominated for Best New Artist at this year's Grammy Awards)

I got no complaints about Saturday. It’s not even Thanksgiving! My new knee did give me a little backlash. When could you ever ski back down to your car before Thanksgiving? Wow 3 ski days before Turkey day.
Slow Poke Pete we rode the lift with you once. You skied pretty good for taking 20years off.

That's awesome...and thanks!

I remember reacting that way when the Dave Matthew’s Band was nominated. Their bootleg and mixtape strategy sort of predicted what would happen when streaming came along I guess
