Bare ground on the cams. Though the only one at elevation is the Platty triple cam and apparently it's still night time up there.
Is that a thing? They don't allow any off piste/tree skiing, I can't imagine they're amenable to uphill travel?Elk Mountain to earn some turns
Spoke to management yesterday on the phone. Seems like they did not even realize they were in the bullseye for this storm. I asked "any chance you run the lifts based on snowfall" they replied "no" I said is it ok if I earn my turns? They said "you are free to hike wherever" so depending on the cams tomorrow morning I might be heading West!Is that a thing? I'm hoping for 6" up on the pocono plateau so I can get a little kick and glide on
Agreed my friend. Lets hope mother nature provides the magic we need!I understand your eagerness Shane but I think it’s hard to make a call like that based on the imperfect forecasts the hills have available to them, especially with no base and unfrozen ground beneath whatever snow they get.. There are a lot of people that have to show up for Plattekill to open for the day- lifties, kitchen staff, patrollers. None of them have working tomorrow pencilled in on the calendar. That being said, if the storm over delivers, pulling together a skeleton crew for Saturday might be more realistic.
Very interested to hear how this plays out if you go, good luck! They said "you are free to hike wherever" so depending on the cams tomorrow morning I might be heading West!
