Fall Weather 2024

the 12z isn't as robust as far as snow accumulations go...but that's ok... it looks like a solid cool/cold down is on the way...
The guys on SkiSoutheast are very excited. Natural snow predicted for Grandfather Mountain, which means Sugar and Beech may get some too. Boone is the college town next to Appalachian. Sounds like all the NC mountains have been testing snowguns this week. The forecast overnight temperatures are well into good snowmaking territory starting Wednesday night.

Last night my wife asked me to check the bathroom faucet. I got up and realized it was raining! Check the radar and we were hit with a rogue storm cell. I think we got a 1/4 inch!

2-to-3 forecast here over the next 48 hours or so, we need it so bad. Would be great if this storm was super organized with snow and rain. Like fill up the ponds first, then turn to snow above 1000 feet.

Elevation dependent heavy wet snow forecasted.

Does NWS use the word “gack"?

Elevation matters.

Accuweather still says 8-12" for Belleayre, although looks like it is currently raining there.

I am super hopeful I can get my first day of the season over there tomorrow.

It is snowing at Stratton at the top and on Snow Bowl Cam at approximately 2600ft elevation. The base cam is showing rain and the midmountain lodge cam looks like a mix.

I am holding out hope for either Plattekill or Belleayre to open tomorrow. Gonna be an early wake up tomorrow to see if either ski area is willing to open to the public. If not I plan on heading to Elk Mountain to earn some turns. They are in the bullseye with up to 16 predicted. Someone get LAZ on the horn!
