    The Future of NYSkiBlog

DCSki has a long history and is more like NYSkiBlog to me than TheSkiDiva. DCSki is a small co-ed community that includes quite a few long time members who have skied together every now and then. Been around long enough to have many lurkers. While the region discussed most in the mid-Atlantic...

    The Future of NYSkiBlog

I've been a part of both situations. Either works in the long run. EpicSki ceased to exist for business reasons that had nothing to do with the forum community. Those who wanted to continue in the same vein are on SkiTalk. Note that SkiTalk was founded a couple years before EpicSki went away...

Let's Talk about Parking at Gore

The most unusual paid parking approach I've experienced is at Grand Targhee. The size of the paid parking section is variable depending on how busy they expect to be. Rope lines mark the boundary. What's more surprising is that the first few rows that are closest to the base are always free...

Cannon, NH 1/6 and Middlebury Snow Bowl, VT 1/7/2026

Thanks for the trip report. Definitely pays to have a guide at Cannon. Just a clarification. Loon is part of Boyne Resorts, along with Sunday River and Sugarloaf in the northeast. It's on Ikon. No connection to Epic or Vail Resorts.

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Here's a sign in at my local Toyota dealership. Was in for an oil change for the 2022 RAV4 Prime with just about 80,000 miles. Apparently Toyota dropped "Prime" from the branding for the PHEV. The fine print under Fuel Cell says "Available in California only".

    Skiing Whales

There is another big BUT because the snow quality can vary a lot more than on bumps composed of natural snow or pushed around snow on a groomed run after a lot of traffic. During early season, there used to be snow whales in the center of the wide blue trail at Massanutten. Only took up a...

Vail, Alterra, Consolidation and the Pendulum

The fine print at the bottom: "The Broad Street Beacon is Nevada County’s premier source of satirical news and whose newsroom shares several walls with a local bar. Richard “Rick” Hallenbeck is a fictional character, though his statements are based entirely on real industry practices. Vail...

    Detachable vs Fixed Grip Lifts

Another article from Stuart about lifts for the USA in general. In particular for smaller ski areas/resorts that can afford to spend $3+ million to replace an aging lift. December 30, 2025 https://www.stormskiing.com/p/the-industry-got-what-it-asked-for

    Killington Village Discussion

I dunno . . . still depends on the region. There are reasons why the Indy Pass list has grown as fast as it has.

FIS Competitions Moved to Whiteface and Waterville Valley

Due to the lack of snowstorms and warm weather in Utah during early season, FIS is moving competitions planned for Deer Valley in mid-January to Lake Placid and Waterville Valley. Freestyle Aerials World Cup will be Jan. 11-12 at the LP Olympic Jumping Complex. Moguls and Dual Moguls will be...

    Who's on the DL?

The woman who I met at Alta Lodge when she was 90 did yoga every morning before breakfast. She was skiing Alta groomers for 1-2 hours every weekday. She wasn't a local, but had a special little room there for the first two weeks of every ski season month, plus the last three weeks of the...

    Who's on the DL?

The downside to swimming is that it doesn't help at all for bone building. Bone loss after a certain age is not only a problem for women. It happens for men too. That's a reason that a broken hip is a known risk for seniors.

Thanks! I'll pass the info along.

Holiday Valley vs Peek 'n Peak for Dec. 22, 2025?

A bit of an odd question . . . my Cleveland ski buddy and another Ohio ski club member want to ski together on Dec. 22. Between Holiday Valley and Peek 'n Peak, which would have more open terrain for advanced skiers? The goal is for planning guided groups during a ski club trip to the European...
