    Spring Weather 2025

Yeah, Mountain Forecast waffled back to rain for Saturday afternoon. If I do go it will suck, if I don’t go they’ll have a 2’ late March miracle!

    Spring Weather 2025

We’ve got the place on Cape Cod and the wife wants to get up there…..so unless I tell her it’s skiing (she’s open to going to Placid) it’s gonna be the Cape. Probably a bad idea to be thinking about Placid, I hear ya. NNJ surf forecast doesn’t look too bad!

    Spring Weather 2025

How is that different than the kooky computer gen forecast? I always use the low end, anyway. So kooky computer gen, local Open Snow forecasters, Mountain Forecast, heck…even NOAA and Whether Channel…all have 8+ inches into Saturday for Northern areas before mixing/changing, with Northern...

    Spring Weather 2025

Open Snow now up to 12-24 in the Whiteface Forecast, and Mountain Forecast has backed off rain for Fri pm to Sun am and is showing 11 inches of snow for Whiteface. Looks like generally light rain after that until Monday afternoon. If all that came true it might be a pretty good weekend at...

    Spring Weather 2025

Mountain Forecast is showing nothing but frz rain/rain through the whole weekend. Lots of moisture, but warm air has the upper hand. When Open Snow and Mountain Forecast are on the same page it usually works out well. Not the case at the moment! Looks like that means Cape Cod this weekend...

    Spring Weather 2025

OpenSnow has upped the Whiteface forecast to 10-18 inches of snow Friday night through Sunday morning. Pure fantasy?

    Bar up or down?

I’m a bar down guy, primarily to give the dogs a respite, if there’s a foot rest. Even without said foot rest, I always go bar down. Why wouldn’t you? Out west I know many don’t, but I’m usually riding with a pack out west and it’s easier to control on your lap with the bar down!

So, um, Jason……how you reading the tea leaves for the Dacks (Whiteface) through next Monday?

    Utah - March 8-11 2025

Yeah, in a half dozen or so days at Snowbird I think I’ve only ridden the Tram twice. It’s objectively cool to do now and again, if you don’t have to wait long, but definitely prefer the lifts.

Where are you skiing this week?

May not be worth the trouble….but you can actually use Metro North to get to Thunder Ridge from NYC.

Where are you skiing this week?

Yeah, I went to Brewster HS, so I grew up skiing there. Ski Club, Ski Team. I was a crappy B Team racer, although I think my good old Head Comp SL took me to one top ten A finish! Wonder how much they’ll still have open at the point.

    Utah - March 8-11 2025

Slow start to the last day, at Snowbird. Wake up, little work, check out…let the mountain soften up a bit. No Mineral Basin today, no hurry. Always neat to ride the Tram, even better with no line. The Gad 2 Boundary was open so figured I’d head out that way. Scenery is amazing. Got in my...

    Utah - March 8-11 2025

Sunrise on Superior! So today, Monday March 10, it was indeed back to Alta. While East Castle and Main Baldy and the Baldy Shoulder did open yesterday, the zone lookers right of East Baldy over to Little Chute hadn’t, so there was still a chance to nab some untracked in this zone. Waited...

    Utah - March 8-11 2025

Looks like it may be back to Alta tomorrow. When I checked late morning before making the call on Brighton I did check the Alta report. East Castle and Baldy were showing closed. East Castle is a fun zone pretty far out that doesn’t open often, but it’s showing on the schedule for tomorrow...

    Utah - March 8-11 2025

I’m glad I chose Brighton today. Superior looks just as spectacular from the BCC side. My late start turned into noon since I didn’t have a parking reservation, but that was fine. Sleep in, let things soften. I didn’t even realize last night we lost an hour. My legs were tired anyway! I...
