This is the outrun of the Odin Ski Club's ski jump, around 10 miles from where I live. The club flourished between the mid 1940s - mid 1960s. This was Art Tokle Sr's (2-time Olympian, National Ski Hall of Fame) home hill. Been looking for this for 20 years and found it by accident.

Harv, I didn't know whether I should post here or in Off Topic.

Peter, I grew up in Telemark. I used to hike and mountain bike up to and around that old ski jump.

its hard to believe there was ever enough snow there for ski jumping.

I found it by accident. I'd heard it was behind the Lutheran church, or off some road by the DPW. Back in the day, in bad years they'd drive around Rockaway harvesting snow for the jump.

I have fantastic memories of summer days listening to those church bells. It was a pretty great spot to grow up. Trails, fishing and Craigmuer just up the road.

Dude wrote a dissertation for his PhD in History at Stony Brook entitled:
"Creating a Modern Wilderness Playground:
The Creation of The Adirondack State Park, 1920-1980"
