What does style and flow mean to you? I’m all about it, we’ll at least at a dad skiing level but I’ve never really been about the exercise or numbers proving my fitness and exercising skills.

This is a fun and quick read.

How do you find your flow state?

Got a good story about a moment or discovering flow? It can be with anything, not just skiing.

Good article. It's nice to know that Plake shares my thoughts about these new skis....lol.
Anyway, last year I hit the flow state on my sled. Nearly everyone I ride with is above my level, one guy was a real deal pro. In the woods these guys will smoke my ass. Not that we're racing, because we're not, but I wasn't smooth enough in the corners to keep pace with them. Last year I had a couple experiences where the next thing I know I was right there with the group. They didn't leave me nor did they ride any slower than they normally do. I was able to smooth it out and hang with them. It was a great feeling and look forward to seeing if I can continue to do that this year.

Skiing has always been pure joy to me. Have been doing it for so long it just comes natural. i spend the whole day smiling, looking for interesting lines and running my mouth. Golf is another animal. Once I stopped taking it seriously my scores went down. Without a practice routine you are going to plateau. I never had the time to devote to that kind of routine. Once i came to terms with that the game has become more enjoyable to me.

Good topic
The greatest sense of flow/ peace comes from these 2 sports

Flat water windsurfing
Back in the straps hooked in , slightly down wind. Sunny and 80 deg. IMO No better feeling

Next rock climbing
Leading a moderate climb. Time stops and and your mind is 100% on that moment. The most fun you can have almost standing still

One of the great things about style and flow is that it gives you something to aspire to without necessarily having to huck your meat, or carry terminal velocity in order to shave fractions of a second.

It’s impossible to quantify, hard to articulate. But it’s some combination of confidence, experience, and looseness manifesting itself. It is sport as art.

Great article. I wish I had style. I have had an out-of-body "flow" experience once. While skiing the Beaver Pond trail an Prospect Mountain, I was transported outta my body. An unconscious state. In only lasted a few seconds, until I had to choose a line for a cranking' downhill. Magical.

Skiing, mountain biking, playing music… I have been in the flow state golfing & playing video games, too. Sometimes it’s better if you’re a little stoned, sometimes it’s not.

It’s just really cool to be completely in the moment, where your skills match the challenge presented and you just feel like you are nailing every [turn/berm/lick/shot/etc.]. Skiing trees & flowy mtb trails are particularly awesome for me.

I think it’s cool when you can combine the flow state with your job, but I haven’t done it. Some people have:
