Proposal: New lodge at Parking Lot G, with lift that tops at old Gondola mid

Gore is only getting more popular and as a result more crowded on weekends. The secret is out and Im worried that in 5 years weekend skiing will be hard to schedule. The mountain does eat up the crowds well but getting to the lift is only going to get worse. Last year I parked halfway down the access road more than once. Its ok I can use the exercise but I believe that a new lodge further down the access road with a lift servicing the terrain between Sunway and Topridge could alleviate the rush to the base lodge. I have also noticed that parking at Ski Bowl Village is getting more difficult as well. The proposed lift can put skiers onto Sunway and the base lifts or have trails connecting to Topridge and the triple accessing Bear Mountain. This ide might have already been floated on this site. Just think we need to prepare for massive crowds as the sport continues to grow and with people finding out about the traesure that is Gore mountain.

I thought for sure I had a character limit on titles.

Needless to say I couldn't control myself, title edited.

Hope I got the basics.

How much additional trail are you proposing?

As far as growth, this year and next will tell the story. Are recent gains permanent?

Just two trails one down to Topridge quad and another to merge with Sunway near Quiksilver

The NYS Constitution has a limit on alpine trail mileage for WF, Gore and Belle.
Is there a limit for Parking Acreage? Finding a parking spot is a problem for some places.

I don’t think you can get to the Topridge chair from the old gondola shack, or if you can it would just be another typical Gore traverse. It would be easier than hiking from G to the lodge but it wouldn’t increase parking or solve takeaway capacity problems at the base. What about new parking lots at the Topridge chair or the Burnt Ridge quad? That would solve those issues and probably for less money.

None of this is in the current UMP. If you want anything to happen you need to get it into the next draft UMP before it is published for comments. Once the draft is published all the decisions have been made and the public comments are just window dressing.

Gore's skier visits are stagnant, but their lift operations have gotten a lot worse in the last 5-10 years, so the lines are longer. They also still haven't put all the tables back in the lodges, making them seem more crowded too.

They just need to address those two things and the mountain will seem less crowded again.

What's the approximate length in miles? I think there is some mileage allocated in that area but not two trails worth.

Since the pandemic they’ve been opening both the gondola and AE2 at ~830. Before that they would open only the gondola, and when it broke down it could take 45 minutes to open the quad. Opening more lifts earlier would solve a lot if the line problems, but I bet the limitation is the number of patrollers to open trails.

The high top tables in the base lodge are a PITA.

The capacity they gained by opening both lifts at 8:30 was given back by not filling the seats and running both lifts very slowly.

They need to be running all 3 detachables at least 900 fpm and filling the seats when there's a line. That will have a noticeable impact on wait times. While Gore's snowmaking has improved by leaps and bonds over the last 5-10 years, their lift operations have significantly degraded. It's really frustrating, especially on busier days.
