PA offers $10Mil restart Denton Hill. No takers.

I used to ski DH while in college. Was a fun place and always had good snow. They had a claim to fame of the steepest slope on the east coast, or something like that, but it was like 4 turns. Good times.

Sadly, Denton is in the middle of nowhere. PA cannot give somebody $10 million to refurbish the place and run it.

It's in the middle of nowhere and anyone coming from one of the population centers would pass bigger places on their way there. I live in PA and it is 4 hrs. from my house. I can be at Gore in 4 hrs. I have a cabin in northeast PA where I can stay and it is 2.5 hrs from there. I can be at Elk or Greek Peak in less than an hour from there.
I think the only thing that would work would be for a local group to form a nonprofit to run it. Not sure how Black Mt. of Maine works but maybe something along those lines.

Maybe ORDA should put in a bid. They’re a nearby non-profit with experience.

Used to go the a traditional archery event every year at Denton. They couldn’t keep the lift running back ten years ago. But steep….they had that In spades. Out in the middle of nowhere is probably the biggest problem they have. Don’t think I’d make the 2+ hour trip on them crap PA roads when I got better options north.

Scrundy is correct. Folks from Philly area or Pittsburgh will drive there to hunt or look at stars. It’s one of the few dark sky areas on east coast (I didn’t realize that was a thing until recently). Skiers will not drive there to ski. In fours I can drive to the Catskills or southern vt. in 5.5 hours from Philly suburbs.
