Now This Run is Insane

Has a ton of these vids
The first five minutes of this compilation clip are noteworthy in that he's skiing on everything imaginable other than snow.

I especially like the sequence at :41, where it looks like he's zipping through a hardwood forest in the northeast. I always wondered if he'd been green-screened into those shots -- he makes it look too easy.

Candide
Has a ton of these vids
They are done in multiple takes. The guy is a savage.
Savage, no doubt. These kinds of videos are cool as shite and fun to watch. However, they always leave me….I don’t know….unsatisfied, in a way?

I like watching real stuff, cool-ass raw skiing in wild locations. Yeah, I know a clip about a massive heli-spine in AK is ‘heavily produced’ and uber-plannned. But at the end of all that planning…it’s a pure, untracked spine that gets skied in A (singular) take. At least that’s my myth.

As cool as these Candide (and other’s) videos are, they come across to me as scripted and performed on a set, done in numerous takes, then put together in post-production. Not to take anything away from the feats Candide performs within that process. However, it just feels to me more like (scripted) entertainment as opposed to pure, raw (reality) skiing.

Am I crazy? I’m probably crazy….

You’re not crazy. They used to cut them to look like they were done in one shot- 100% low angle follow cam angle. I liked those better. Still cool though- cool enough to get me to stick through the whole video at least

I’ve put my finger on it! It’s like seeing an animal in the wild versus seeing an animal in a zoo. The animal is no less spectacular, but the zoo experience is lacking.

Talk about picking nits!

Just as I’ve been to the zoos….so do I watch these cool vids all the way through.
With many cool skiing videos I like to picture myself skiing that spine in AK, I might even be able to. I can’t achieve that same “picture myself in the same position” aspect with these ones, however.
