I finally watched "In Pursuit of Soul"

Doesn’t Ikon-ization of the ski world enhance the value/appeal of such independents? I guess you are assuming that Ikon and the like are the skiing Borg, resistance is futile, independents will either be assimilated or die?

I'm surprised that no one has really been talking about how the 42% increase in Epic Passes will affect the crowds at places like Hunter and Mt. Snow. If you thought it was crowded on weekends before, wait until this season. You won't see me near any of those places just regarding the crowds. Not that I would be anyway because I won't spend a nickel at a Vail resort.
I think that the 42% increase in passes, in combination with the increase day ticket prices, will drive more people to the independents.

It almost made me feel ashamed I'm an IKON skier this season. I'm certain I'll be a one and done with them.

I took the liberty of embedding the video in your post.

And then I too finally watched it.

It really speaks to me. Saddleback, Bolton, all of it. Some incredible stories.

Thanks for posting.

I feel that for now skiing is surviving because boomers are still skiing and covid has given skiing a boost.

I'm concerned that in ten years, numbers will be down, and the pressure on independents will increase even more.

I hope I'm wrong.

I agree. I think the increased day ticket prices will inhibit new comers and therefore growth in the sport. First timers don't buy season passes and the sticker shock will keep many from trying the sport.
I think the crowds, and due to the limited work force, the poor service, will push more people to the independents next season. A lot of people who said they wouldn't buy the Epic Pass this year, when the price was reduced by 20%, said it was too good a deal not to buy it. I'm sure the price will increase next year and less people will buy it.
While that would be good for the independents, for selfish reasons I don't really want to see more people where I ski.;)

if any of you are on instagram check out epic liftlines, He/she has been gathering feedback from employees of VR of how bad it is...
