Have you ever had your gear stolen?

So we have missing skis at Gore. My nephew has had a board stolen off a rack at Mountain Creek and on Junior’s first day working there somebody got caught trying to drive off with a bunch of stolen gear. I always just leave my stuff sitting when I go in the lodge. From 1989 until now, I’ve never worried. My attitude has been that I would never steal from my fellow skiers (and snowboarders, too) so I can trust them too. Am I nuts?

Put this in a bit ago in what-is-your-resort’s-brand thread.
Remember one freakout years ago where Volkl's were stolen. Leaned, em against the window to keep an eye on em. Must have been distracted... and then they were gone. Stayed away for years cause of it. Time heals as does new management.
Must’ve looked like advertising from the inside.
And it took awhile to get a beer back then especially on a Friday night freakout night,

Oh yeah, I remember now. That sucks too. And that was in CNY right? That’s the kind of place I would think you could trust people.

Yup. The freakout at Song used to bring throngs and it’s not far from I-81 exit. Homeowners covered the loss. Still sucked.
My backup Solomon skis purchased used have a story. Rode up the lift with a dude said he used to have a pair just like the ones I had on. They were his old ones he’d traded in at the SkiCompany where I bought em about a month before. He told me the story of one day at Gore someone took them up to the top of the Gondola before figuring out they weren’t theirs. He came out of the lodge and saw the other pair of Solomons that weren’t his. He got his back eventually, when the other folks figured out their mistake and got his skis back down the mountain.

During the mid 90s height of snowboarding’s growth I had a K2 Eldorado stolen at Okemo. It was believed to have been part of a (relatively, by Vermont crime syndicate standards) large operation stealing snowboards that winter.

I lock them up no matter what..even if its just 5 minutes. So I have never had anything stolen. Even though most ski locks are easy to cut..no one will bother as they can just grab the next pair. I do have a very tough lock for my Wagners though..but its tough to carry.

My nephew does this now with his board. Being robbed has an effect.
