Another first for Boyne in the Mid-west. They we install an 8 person high speed detachable lift replacing the two very slow lifts in the Disciples area. This area has some nice tree lined decent length (by Michigan standards) but the very slow lifts made this not a very enjoyable area to ski. Up hill cavity should be about the same on the weekends when both lifts ran.

Saw that on Liftblog. Good to know more about the terrain it will serve. Looks like both advanced and beginners have a reason to ride up to the top of that peak.

Boyne Resorts clearly had a long term plan in mind when the first 8-seater D-Line was installed with great fanfare at Big Sky. It's quite a nice ride. Didn't take too long for people to figure out how the conveyor loading works. Since it seats eight, there are gates to get people lined up properly well in advance of the chair arriving. The second one is at Loon.

I'm interested in how they set up the base, given that there is considerable distance between the two lifts they are consolidating. Also, this lift was not optioned with bubbles, unlike the previous two 8 packs. I don't see Boyne Resorts ever buying a new high speed quad again. The previous 3 projects, they have installed a 6 or 8 pack to replace a high speed quad, then relocated the high speed quad to replace a fixed grip. This is their first instance of an 8 pack directly replacing fixed grips.

In 1992 they installed a 6 passenger high speed detachable lift.

First 6 pack in the country, but I'm referring to recent projects here. Boyne did not own 6 of their 9 resorts between 2007 and 2018, which brought all capital improvements at those resorts to a grinding halt. This is a new era for them.

I just wondered if anyone ever said it that way.

I think you’re correct in the short term but once the last of the baby boomers are installed into full time care or under dirt, all bets are off. I wouldn’t be surprised to see these new lifts eventually replaced by fixed grip quads.
