Labrador Mountain

Labrador Mountain logoLabrador Mountain is located 30 minutes from Syracuse on Route 91 south of the Labrador Hollow unique area. Here steep glacially carved valleys lead to a unique cooler climate that are, in some ways, similar to the bogs of the Adirondacks. The privately operated resort is jointly owned with Song mountain and an inter-resort pass is available.

Labrador has two lodges, a cafeteria, the “Last Run Restaurant”, rental shop and kids center. Like many local resorts “Lab” has an expansive sports program. The Labrador Mountain Ski Club is a volunteer group helping sponsor and develop young racers and is one of the best of the area.

Labrador has 700 feet of vertical drop spread out over 250 acres and 22 trails. Most trails are spacious and offer ample space to stretch legs and make wide carves. Labrador has 4 lifts total including 2 doubles, a triple and T Bar. Roughly 70% of the terrain is available for night skiing and no need to worry about thin coverage as the majority of the mountain has snowmaking. To add to the snowmaking Lab is also located in the New York’s lake effect zone receiving around 125” of snow a year.

Labrador is neatly divided into three peaks. The central and northern peaks both feed back to the central base area, while the southern peak is a bit more isolated. The Northern Peak, serviced by a double, is mostly spacious greens and blues mentioned before. Below the lift is the terrain park found off of Labrador’s signature trail Razor Back. The Central Peak area is a mix of terrain interwoven between the North and South Peaks. These trails offer more of an east coast vibe with more narrow and winding paths.

Those seeking a challenge look to South Peak. None of the 700’ of vertical is wasted on the six black diamonds fed from this lift. When Labrador gets a lake effect dump this is the side to be on with steeps like Midnight Express and Ptarmignon. Expert skiers will find marked tree skiing, farthest skiers right, aptly named Glade. The adventurous may also find trees to duck into off of the steep and narrow “No Name” as well.

Labrador Mountain is located 30 minutes south of Syracuse just off NY-91. Labrador stays relatively quiet and is a great family resort. Off the mountain, make sure to check out the Labrador Hollow Wilderness Area or Green lakes state park, some of the most beautiful nature preserves in NY.
