Hunt Hollow Ski Club

Hunt Hollow logoIn the middle of the Finger Lakes, just south of Honeoye Lake is Hunt Hollow Ski Club. The club has been operating since the late 60s and has a storied history in the area. Hunt Hollow is a private member ski resort with some public hours during the week. There are a variety of membership options including weekday and student passes.

The purpose of the membership model is to create a community oriented atmosphere with the highest quality facilities and staff. The club offers a variety of services including lessons, child care and ski and snowboard camps. Like many local hills, Hunt is active in the local race scene and has one of the best independent racing clubs in NY.

Hunt Hollow’s 825 feet of vertical provides gorgeous views of the surrounding valley and the south end of Honeoye Lake. 80 acres of skiable terrain is spread out over 20 trails of varying difficulty. 3 lifts service this terrain, the newest lift installed in 2013 is a riblet double that travels the full vertical of the mountain. The terrain is evenly split between greens, blues and blacks. Of note, Hunt Hollow has one double black called “The Gauntlet”, a steep gladed run down skier’s right. In 2018 the majority of snowmaking was revamped at the mountain including the replacement of the original piping from 50 years ago and 12 new snow guns.

The mountain is neatly organized with the greens and blues on skier’s left and the blacks on skier’s right. Sky Coasters winds out to the mountains boundary and feeds various blues like Fox Run and Big Dipper along the way. Towards the lower half of the mountain is Hunt’s park “7 Turns”. The park at Hunt has a variety of jumps, jibs and rails to keep all riders busy. The park crew, made up of mostly volunteers, is really passionate and keeps things super tight. They host a variety of events to raise money for the park like Berms, Bruises and Brews, their annual snowboard race.

The steeper runs on skier’s right gives skiers and riders a true big mountain challenge with black diamonds. Glade is Hunt’s signature run, a single black diamond that runs the full face of the mountain and is often the home of races on weekends. Further right is the steep and narrow Ragged Edge, a classic New England style trail. In between Ragged Edge and Cascade is Hunt’s previously mentioned double black, the Gauntlet.

Hunt Hollow is located just off Route 36 in Naples NY. The mountain is a little less than an hour south of the city of Rochester. Hunt is a great choice for those looking to avoid the regular crowds or for those seeking a family-oriented experience. On weekends the club is often hosting events or community get-togethers with food and drinks. While visiting the area, do not miss out local wineries like Hazlitt or Arbor Hill. There is also a variety of craft brewers and distillers in the area. In the warmer months check all the good hiking spots like the Finger Lakes trail or Grimes Glen.
